Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, September 13, 2024

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a serious concussion on a fourth-down run in Thursday night's loss to the Buffalo Bills, exhibiting "fencing response" in his arms after the hit from tackler Damar Hamlin. Because of his past concussion problems there's a lot of talk in the media about whether he will (or should) retire even though he's only 26.

Only three concussions? I'll wager the real number is at least twice that. This guy will be a regular person a lot longer than his time as a football player. His actions should focus on his preparation for the rest of his life, and not preparation for his next offensive set...

More than that. Most of those guys have some minor level leaving every game. This is the 3rd BAD one. Time to decide between fortune and a life of CTE.

Not that anybody should care about the Dolphin's ownership but this was bound to happen.

It was quite probable an extremely highly paid quarterback with a giant sum of guaranteed money included in his contract would have an injury like this which exposes the organization to a $125 million+ liability with zero return.

So it's going to come down to being medically cleared to play.....so expect a lot of controversy surrounding that decision.

If he's cleared and he chooses not to play, then he forfeits the remainder of the guaranteed money.

If he's not cleared to play.......he gets the money.

This is turning into a habit.

He plowed headfirst into the chest of a safety coming right at him, after he already had the first down.

Tua concussed himself so the backup QB could go 4 and out, getting sacked on 4th down.

It was just bad football, and it's hard to feel sorry for him.

chest of a safety

Wasn't just any safety, it was Hamlin, who had the problem with his chest last year.

I thought it was bad football at first, but it wasn't. He got the first down by two yards. If he had slid instead, the ball is moved to where he began the slide and might've been short.

My take is he was close enough to the goal line that he went for it.

Any other part of the field he slides (though I have never seen him slide, not that he hasn't just have never seen it)

He put his head down and rammed Damar Hamlin. Idiot.

From the tape, it looked like he tried using his head as a battering ram.

Most offense players do this, lead with their "helmet". For some reason the NFL doesn't call targeting on this sort of play.

They'll be showing this footage to young quarterbacks for a long time.

2 yards is plenty of time to just fall on the ball. Maybe he gets lucky, and the safety can't stop from running into him after he's down for some extra yards.
