Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In 2023, the Village of Lockland had a population of just 3,500. One year later, village leaders say that number has doubled as an estimated 3,000 West African migrants pack into the small Hamilton County community. The dramatic influx is overwhelming finances, resources and emergency services in the village, which only spans 1.2 miles between neighboring Reading and Wyoming. "With the federal government's open border policy, these immigration population outbursts have been left for small villages like Lockland to have to deal with," Mayor Mark Mason told WCPO Tuesday. "If they're going to have an open border policy they're going to need a policy to direct these immigrants to communities that can withstand that kind of population outburst. 1.2 square mile village " it's unsustainable."

Unfortunately the lies told about these immigrants wind up drowning out the actual and real challenges communities face with so many new residents.

Finger pointing over "open borders", etc. winds up being the narrative rather than the actual challenges these communities and their respective State governments face.

Well since Gravy considers herself to be a patriotic, kind and loving American, then of course she would welcome them to Florida to reside. I'm sure there is enough room there. Even in her county, no less.

Eh?

Remember when the American attitude was "these poor, tired, huddled masses are yearning to breathe free, I'm so proud to part of the liberation of their misery."?

Shadows of the Past: Examining Historical narratives around Irish Immigration and Modern-Day Incarceration
www.okjusticereform.org

... In the intricate tapestry of American history, threads of systemic injustice weave across centuries, connecting disparate communities with shared experiences. One such poignant comparison emerges when delving into the history of Irish immigrants and drawing parallels to the present-day over-incarceration of Native, Black, and other communities of color. This blog aims to unravel these interconnected narratives, exploring the echoes of the past reverberating in the present.

In the 19th century, Irish immigrants sought refuge in America, escaping famine and hardship. However, their journey was fraught with hostility and discrimination, pushing them to the margins of society. ...

Irish Americans recall the biases (2006)
www.seattlepi.com

... "Irish need not apply" was the joyless greeting thousands of Irish immigrants found as they entered their new country years ago. Forced to emigrate by repeated failure of the potato crop, they left their native Ireland as economic refugees and traveled to the land of opportunity.

Life in the Promised Land was not easy. Employment was the first challenge. Opportunities were limited by employers who treated the Irish as lazy, uncivilized and illiterate. They worked in mines and steel mills, kitchens and fields, doing jobs that established residents found undesirable. They often worked two and three jobs, as so many new immigrants must do to survive.

To fit in, our ancestors dropped their Irish names as necessary, lost the Irish accent and enjoyed Irish song and dance only in close circles. It worked. Irish Americans assimilated and made significant contributions to the economy, the arts, politics and public service. Today, despite a healthy economy in Ireland, an estimated 40,000 undocumented Irish live in the United States, including some political refugees.

Immigrants today meet with even greater complexities. Not only does racism confront most immigrants, bias against accents, religion and dress create barriers for those seeking the opportunity to live in this nation built by immigrants. ...

Notice how shrimptacodan* writes like "bushlover2/afkabl2/"babbles" who, at his advanced age, finally earned his GED!!!

* shrimptacodan has me plonked. Would someone be so kind as to let him/her know that while he/she cannot see my posts (head in the sand, if you will) I can still see his/her posts, and he/she cannot see my retort.

Thank you.

And why were they attracted to that part of Ohio after immigrating from West Africa?
I'm guessing it wasn't because of the friendly locals or the generous services for immigrants.
Who's telling them?
