OK, my first question ...
What is the relative cost of this approach vs just trying to reduce our carbon footprint?
Is this more of a "attacking the symptom" rather than a "solving the cause" issue?
Stated differently, corporations make profits be spewing carbon into the our air. And now we have new corporations and the wealthy proposing profitable businesses to remove that carbon from the air.
Would not it just be better to solve the problem of our carbon footprint?

Sure would!
But that is not happening ... not while we are an oil /fossil fuel based economy. Not while republicans are in power.
When we perfect unlimited fusion power we will be able do that.
Most experts agree that we're unlikely to be able to generate large-scale energy from nuclear fusion before around 2050. And that's being optimistic. You might want to add as many years as republicans hold power. Because they will not be making this a priority like drill baby drill is.

I wonder why you people cant see that the U.S. is one of the cleanest countries out there? Why are you after China, Pakistan, India or Singapore, you know? A country who is really polluting the planet?
Oh, that's right, they would tell you to go --- yourselves.
Leave the U.S. alone, we are barely polluting anything. That's why you cant get anywhere and you get so much push back.
