Despite all the spin, there remains strong support for childhood vaccination requirements. Yes, support decreasing (ugh) & strong political divide (ugh). But important to recognize that public opinion doesn't always map the rage rhetoric. #VaccinesWork

... Many see a political opportunity to rewrite policies in their states after President Donald Trump's return to the White House and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. s nomination as the next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The agency oversees virtually every aspect of vaccination efforts in the U.S., from funding their development to establishing recommendations for medical providers to distributing vaccines and covering them through federal programs.

Childhood vaccination rates against dangerous infections like measles and polio continue to fall nationwide, and the number of parents claiming non-medical exemptions so their kids don't get required shots is rising.

In 2024, whooping cough cases reached a decade-high and 16 measles outbreaks, the largest among them in Chicago and Minnesota, put health officials on edge. Most states are below the 95% vaccination threshold for kindergartners " the level needed to protect communities against measles outbreaks. ...

How is it that after decades and decades of routine vaccinations that all of a sudden religious folks are claiming an exemption? Can any of our resident churchies provide the justification?

I remain to be convinced that those seeking vaccine exemption via a religious exemption have been religious people.

I tend to lean towards @2, which said...

The religious exemption from the laws and policies that govern the Country is a tried and true tactic.

I mean, look how religion has wandered deep, so very deep, into politics, and yet, still retains its tax-free status.

@#5 ... I can't get vaccinated, because cult ...

That is a main concern for me of late.

Over the course of the past few years, I used to watch the CDC website and the recommendations for vaccines proffered on that site.

And my health insurance company told me that they cover, with no co-pay, any vaccine recommended by the CDC.

Now with a candidate who looks to be a conspiracy-oriented vaccine-denier possibly leading the CDC, will the CDC continue to proffer what vaccines are recommended?

And more seriously, will the CDC continue to fund vaccine research?

Is RFK,Jr's nomination just another step in Pres Trump's apparent goal of killing off Americans?

Reminds me of George Will's question, updated: If Donald Trump was sent to destroy America ... what would he be doing differently?

Inevitable that there will be fairly soon, another viral outbreak, a pandemic perhaps of Bird Flu, and with this idiotic policy, a lot of old folks like me ending the morgue as there will be no way to fight the spread if so many people can avoid getting a vaccine shot.
