Everything Trump has done so far has been bad for the country, but this may be one of the most dangerous. Buckle up. "Trump admin has signaled it does not believe Russia presents a cyber threat against US national security or critical infrastructure." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025 ...

... This comes just weeks after security analysts sounded the alarm on Sandworm stealing credentials and data from American organizations. Sandworm is the operations wing of Russia's Military Intelligence Unit 74455, part of the GRU, that has been blamed for waging cyberwarfare against America's critical infrastructure.

We highly doubt that particular crew or any other Kremlin goons are going to stop their phishing and espionage campaigns against the States nor other digital intrusions into US networks, not to mention the ransomware crews bleeding hospitals and other victims dry.

The reported retreat by the Pentagon marks a major about-face in American operations against Russia, as America's military has not only conducted these in the past against President Putin's regime, but then even spoken publicly about them and how they were used to support Ukraine in its response to Russia's devastating invasion.

"We've conducted a series of operations across the full spectrum; offensive, defensive, [and] information operations," former US Cyber Command chief General Paul Nakasone said in 2022. ...

Let's put this into World War II historical perspective:

Trump moved the Pacific Fleet from Hawaii so that the Japanese could surprise it in San Diego.

Russia is no longer a cyber threat. Because the threat is coming from inside America's firewall.

The clear and present danger is already in the White House so no need to worry about Russia getting in now.

Now it's all about getting them out.

So it's ok for Trumpers to lie their arses off, undermine free and fair elections and spread Russian agitprop with glee (and with no repercussions) yet "leftist blogs" are suddenly the problem now?

Rigger please!

In some respects, I'd agree.

For example, what backdoors is the DOGE crew leaving in the computer systems they are attacking, and what entity or entities will have access to those possible backdoors?

Still, that does not mean that Russia is no longer a cyber threat, it just means that, as your comment notes, there may also be a cyber threat from within.

Similar to Homeland Security has been warning more about domestic terrorists than foreign terrorists. But The Department of Homeland Security is still warning about foreign terrorists.
