Douglas Wayne Cornett (58) of Ruther Glen, VA, pleaded guilty to federal hate crimes charges for trying to kill two Latino victims. On the evening of 28 Feb 2024, Cornett followed a box truck driven by 'O.G.', an adult Latino male, into the Sheetz gas station along I-95 in Spotsylvania County, VA. Cornett then asked 'J.M.', an adult Latino male and a friend of 'O.G.', how long 'O.G.' had been present in the US. Upon learning that 'O.G.' had arrived within the last two years, Cornett drew a handgun and fired six rounds, striking 'O.G.' three times and 'J.M.' once. Cornett later confessed to a county deputy to shooting the victims because they were 'illegals.' This homicidal white supremacist will be sentenced on 13 Nov. Per the terms of his plea agreement, Cornett will receive no more than 24 years in prison. |
