  • Rabies cases are appearing in more corners of the US. The CDC reported six human deaths in the past year, the highest tally in years. "We are currently tracking 15 different likely outbreaks." Regions seeing a surge range from Long Island and Cape Cod to parts of AK, AZ, NC, and OR, as skunks, raccoons, and foxes test positive for the deadly virus. "There are parts of the US where it does seem like we're getting more calls and more reports."
  • Beaches from Crystal River, FL to Ogunquit, ME, have been under advisories warning about water quality because of elevated levels of bacteria associated with fecal waste. Beaches closed: Keyes Memorial Beach in Cape Cod, Benjamin's Beach in Bay Shore, NY, and a portion of the Imperial Beach shoreline near San Diego. Hawaii is warning of a high bacteria count at Kahaluu Beach Park on the Big Island.
