"The program had already allocated funding to upgrade at least 25,000 housing units nationwide, but HUD has not clarified how it will handle the rollback.
According to an internal HUD document obtained by the AP, the decision to shutter the program came at the direction of DOGE. Two HUD employees, speaking anonymously due to fear of reprisals, confirmed the directive.
HUD did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Mike Essian, vice president at American Community Developers, Inc., which had received program funding, warned that without this support, projects could collapse.
"Projects will fail, and these are projects that are already difficult to finance," Essian said."

Definitely all about the cruelty. And to show that the People don't own their Gov, the Corporations do.
More Thanks, Trumpers!

Hi Corky: It's the cruelty, for sure. About 24.5 million (or 7.4%) of Americans have experienced homelessness in their lifetime (NCBI, 2018). Thanks to Trumpf and DOGE, we will see a return of Hoovervilles within a few years:

Severe Affordable Housing Shortage Plagues Nation as Funding Cuts Loom NLIHC's releases its annual 'The Gap' report.
As the nation faces potential cuts to federal housing programs, there is a shortage of 7.1 million affordable and available rental homes, reveals the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC).
In its annual "The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes" report, NLIHC finds there are only 35 affordable and available homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households."

This money nothing to do with making housing cheaper or more affordable.
But used to put $40,000 into a home that already has an owner. Why is the US government giving $40,000 a home to people that already own homes?
Regarding Homelessness.
You all talk a good game, but California spend $24 Billion on homelessness over 5 yrs, and have nothing to show for it.
But the HIC board of directors for all the NGOs were paid well. At this point until proven otherwise, everything is a grift.
Its very similar to education spending, cry about teachers getting low salaries, allocate more money most if not all goes to more administrators.
Its sad really, America given its spending on education, should have the best schools and teaches in the world. Instead is squandered on middle management Democrat donor pencil pushers.

Prefers squandering money on billionaire tax cuts in what is the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the very wealthy in our history.
Your whiny priorities suck.

Combover Quisling promised that somehow his mass deportations would make housing more affordable. Job done? Now it's apparently time to reap the rewards. LOL, anyone who is not rich who voted for the demented orange POS is going to find out how it feels to have the leopards eat their faces. Farmers and investors can already attest to that.

And Felon Musk visited NSA to advise them they need an "overhaul."
If you look carefully, you'll see the eagle doing a pained eyeroll.
Simply put, Trumpf/Musk/Putin want to cripple US national security, as well as impoverish and sicken the masses using DOGE as a canard.
