The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that Medicare Advantage will be overpaid by $1.2 trillion by the USG between 2025 and 2034. Medicare Advantage plans are private, for-profit health insurance plans that Washington pays to manage Medicare. They are being aggressively being pushed on senior citizens as an alternative to traditional Medicare. These plans cover more than half of the 68.5 million people currently enrolled in Medicare. Former Cigna executive Wendell Potter describes Medicare Advantage as "one of the biggest scams that we've seen in this country."

United HealthCare Group (UHC) operates Medicare Advantage, a company that has denied covering healthcare costs for its customers. UHC is also being sued by its own shareowners for fraud. The top health insurance regulator in the country, Dr. Mehmet Oz, owns between $280,000 and $600,000 in UnitedHealth Group stocks and between $50,000 and $100,000 in CVS Health, which both provide health insurance plans under Medicare Advantage. Globally, Americans spend the most on health care but have the worst health outcomes among high-income countries, dying on average four years earlier than their Western counterparts. The US has the highest rate of preventable and treatable deaths for all ages, as well as excess deaths during the COVID pandemic for people under 75. Per annum, a US citizen spends $9,008.77 on health care and $2,086.50 towards national defense.

"No sooner had the House Energy and Commerce Committee kicked off its markup of the GOP's big, beautiful bill' than protesters descended upon the proceedings," Politico reports.

"US Capitol Police was forced to quickly arrest 25 people and remove several protestors in wheelchairs from the hearing room amid chants of no cuts to Medicaid' and waste, fraud and abuse my ass.'"

"Aggressively pushed" barely covers it. Especially around year-end, it's harassment.

Something I'd like to see the US government do is eliminate the bulk-rate mailing that enables so much of this crap, and a million other sources.

Of course, it was bulk-rate mailing that drove what has turned into Trumpism:

Medicare Advantage plans can be good if you're wealthy.

Most people are better off sticking with traditional Medicare.

@#1 ... Companies like United Health Care (UHC) running scams like Medicare Advantage ...

Just because United Health Care may seem to be a scam company, that assertion should not taint other Medicare Advantage providers.

Asked differently, once focus and attention seemed to go to UHC's business practices, suddenly the CEO resigns?

What's up with that?

I disagree.

I am not wealthy.

Yet I value my Medicare Advantage plan.

Maybe ConnectiCare is an outlier in this respect? I don't know, because ConnectiCare has been quite good for me.

YMMV.

@#9 ... CUTTING WASTE ...

Please explain how waste is being cut in MediCare.

The cuts your current alias cites in the link are for the California programs, not MediCare.

To wit, from the #9 link your current seems to be all BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA about ...

...

California Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing to end free health care for most undocumented immigrants, walking back one of his signature policies as the state faces a drop in tax revenue.

Under the details of a revised budget plan, undocumented adults enrolled in Medi-Cal -- the state-funded version of Medicaid for low-income residents " would be required to start paying a $100 monthly premium from 2027. ...

What else it got?

****UPDATE****

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is carrying out a criminal investigation into UnitedHealth Group for possible Medicare fraud, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The company's stock slipped 8% in after-hours trade following the report, which follows a series of problems at the insurer.

On Tuesday, UnitedHealth Group's CEO, Andrew Witty, stepped down unexpectedly, and the company simultaneously suspended its 2025 financial forecast due to rising medical costs. The announcement sent shares plunging nearly 18% to a four-year low.
