FTC Sues Ticketmaster and Live Nation

The Federal Trade Commission is suing Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation, over allegations of illegal and deceptive business practices that it says has resulted in consumers paying "significantly more" than the face value of a ticket. In a lawsuit filed in California District Court on Thursday, the FTC accuses the companies of multiple forms of illicit behavior. Seven other states -- Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia " joined the FTC's suit.

The federal agency claims that Live Nation and Ticketmaster deceived both artists and consumers by allowing ticket brokers to "routinely and substantially" exceed posted limits on the number of tickets that consumers can purchase for an event, as well as limits demanded by artists.

imo, these companies have been exploiting the ticket marketplace for too long.

What I know is that ticket prices have become far too expensive and seem to always be unavailable, unless you go pay through the nose. I've long refused to pay the sort of prices demanded.

For years, it has seemed to be known that a band cannot make money unless it can fill up a large arena.

They've been doing this for 3 or 4 decades, and this is the administration that goes after them? Probably looking to grift a fine out of their obscene profits.

I stopped going to both concerts and sporting events solely because of Ticketmaster. I hope they are forced into bankruptcy.

Finally, something I can support. Still, as Catdog suggests, a Trumpian shakedown would not surprise me. He or an ally will benefit financially most likely.That guy never has pure motives.

I remember in 1984 I was standing in love never the Ticketmaster inside a Sears. They kept printing tickets and stashing them under the counter. I did get tickets, but the seats weren't great.
