Aztec Camera - Jump, live at the Dominion Theatre (1984)
www.youtube.com

Starts out as a mellow, acoustic cover of the Van Halen song, and goes into a loud Roddy Frame guitar solo to end the song.

Yeah, Nirvana seems to dislike covers of this tune, in general. But on this mellow cover, I disagree.

I mean, at least I can understand the lyrics sung ...

@#13

I first heard that song by ZZ Top back in the day when I was in Louisville, KY as my first job out of college.

The radio station there, WLRS (Louisville Radio Station, but they referred to themselves as "walrus radio") was quite good in what they played. Not as good as the "Radio Free Fort Knox" station that I found in the under 92MHz portion of the FM band there. The latter remains an enigma. But I digress ...

So, when I first heard "La Grange" on air, I called the WLRS DJ (back in the day, that was easy to do) and asked him for details about the song, i.e., title and artist.

He told me "La Grange." I asked him to spell it, because it did not understand him, and he said, you know like the prison. I then told him I had been in Louisville for only a short time, so I didn't understand the reference. He told me, ~hold on, I have to do a commercial break~ when he came back a few minutes later, we talked a lot about the music scene in Louisville (which was excellent!).

It was somewhat of my "Welcome to Louisville" welcome basket for me.

and, fwiw ...
