Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Anything goes on this thread. So post whatever y'all want. But I'll try to stay with media theme songs (emphasis on "try"). The cited link is A Swingin' Safari by Bert Kaempfert (1962). A theme of the TV show, The Match Game back in the day.

Such an upbeat tune from such a, I'll be kind, disturbing movie.

W.G. Snuffy Walden - West Wing Suite
www.youtube.com

Yeah, I often watch the West Wing DVDs that I have to assuage me that Pres Trump's reign of terror upon the Constitution is only a temporary thing.

That aside, from what I've heard, the producers of The West Wing decided that a more classical music oriented music background would be better for the show than the original rock-oriented music background that had originally proposed.

imo, good decision.

So, I guess, on to other things ...

That aside, what's on your playlist this evening?

As I mentioned... no specific musical topic on this thread ...

Ten Wheel Drive - Morning Much Better (1970)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
How many times have I told you, baby
That I'd do anything you say
But listen here, daddy
I got a new feeling
That you can't do me this way

Ain't said no to your love
And never did and never never plan to do
But if you want to keep me happy, baby
Better hear what I'm saying to you

Coming to night I might dig being up
For floating around on a cloud
Watching people walking past my window
Playing my music out loud

Coming to noon I can't think about nothing
But the daylight blazing through
And the afternoon is a no count time
'Cause I got my business to do

Well I could probably function
For a little conjunction, yeah
But I usually like it
In the morning much better, yeah

Most people think that the midnight trip
Is the proper kind of scene
But I come on feeling very foggy
And I never can cut it too clean

People think they're at the top of their form
After staying up half of the night
But I know after a good night's sleep
Well I can get it on all right

I ain't never resisted, lord
When you have insisted, no
But I usually like it
In the morning much better, yeah

Early in the morning with the sun just up
And the air so fresh and sweet
Folks just getting their boots pulled on
And they're straggling out to the street

Taken their time while before they start
In to cutting on their wood
I can't say just what it is sugar
But I know it sure feels good

Pull the curtain behind me, yeah
You better come find me
'Cause I usually like it
In the morning much better
...

Either Way - Wilco (Kami Maltz ft. Josh Turner)

Think I'm drawn to these kind of covers because it's what we did in college many evenings; sit around and play music with our friends. (not even the real artists had auto tune and stuff)

Frank Zappa, "Whipping Post":

I saw him do this as an encore at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta way back around this time and thought it was just something for the locals. Didn't realize it was part of his usual set.

Well.... I never even knew he covered that. Also the outro visuals flashed me back to a 1974 acid trip.

Thanks!

22. Spirit was 100 percent off my radar. An album of theirs popped up via an algorithm, and my wife started singing along with every word. I was like, "Who the hell is this? And why do you know all the lyrics?"

26. At least Ravi Shankar looks clearheaded. That's a great collection of shots of those folks. Thanks.

I used to play music with a guy who had played guitar professionally for decades and was an all-around freak (yet a Trumper, in the early days anyway). We once saw someone walk by with a mock-vintage Woodstock T-shirt listing all the performers, and I asked if there were any he hadn't seen. There were two (I think Melanie and one other), but he mentioned, "We did open for Canned Heat one time." I was impressed enough.

The only band I saw 3 times in the 70's was Tull... I went out and bought a flute right away. Ian was a really good guitarist, but he said after he saw Clapton and some others play he figured he should get a new lead instrument.

When I was 16 though, I had just gotten my drivers license and some girl wanted me to take her to see Herman's Hermits at Market Hall in Dallas. OK... so, their opening act was The Who.

They played My Generation, Happy Jack, I Can See for Miles, some others... then they started smashing their instruments on stage.... in f'n Dallas, TX. No one had seen anything like it.

I still don't even remember the Hermits playing at all, but my music life had changed. Next thing I knew I was in someone's black light poster room smoking pot and listening to Paint it Black.

Have great Holiday!
