A staggering statement from former Washington Post editor Marty Baron: "This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world's greatest news organizations."

Used to subscribe, back when the WP really was a terrific newspaper. It took a long time for Bezos to squeeze the life out of that paper, but by the time he killed its presidential endorsement and brought that loathsome Murdoch suck-up Lewis on board, it was all over but the hair tearing and tears. Damn shame, really.

Worth a read:

A 23 year-long suicide. Back in early 2003 the Washington Post took the lead in beating the war drums for the invasion of Iraq. ---- 'em forever.

The Washington Post is running Bannner Ads above the top headline now.

it physically looks like the Web from 2003.

Fascism can be defined as being cutthroat capitalism with concentration camps. If Trump "wins" another term, those camps will not be far behind. Fascism can also be defined as "the permanent rule of a tiny minority over the great majority using intimidation, violence, and total media gaslighting.
The Post is fascinating, in a dark sense, by being one of the major gaslighting outfits in major media land. As the FDR safety net gets dismantled, one SS check at a time, we will find ourselves blamed for being a bother to the rich and the Bezos, the Musk and the Trump...fascists.

No one needs objective journalism.

You only need to hear what propaganda Dear Leader deems important.

Newspapers are not profitable anymore. They also have a history of corrupt news feeds. Bezos is a bottom-line capitalist. The timing sucks for sure... but I bet that has more to do with profit than anything. Bezos is famous for eliminating tons of printed material. Amazon ate Borders.

That's always been the case.
For true Capitalists, Fascism has more to do with profit, than any sort of political ideology.

List of American companies that profited thanks to the Nazis:
IBM, Ford, GM, Standard Oil, Alcoa, Chase.

I punted everything Bezos over a year ago.
Not missing any of it.

"For true Capitalists, Fascism has more to do with profit, than any sort of political ideology"

The central focus of American policy is to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism.

I'm paraphrasing something I read from a book called "Blackshirts and Reds" by Michael Parenti which I read about 20 years ago.

@#6 ... The op-ed piece by Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton ...

If you have been paying attention, you might know that Mr Bezos gave strict marching orders to his OpEd staff regarding what they can and cannot publish.

At that point, the credibility of the Washington Post died.
