Latin America is where a lot of the Chinese exports are ending up. In towns and cities all over South America cheap Chinese crap and fake brand name clothing and accessory products are being sold on streets by undocumented and documented migrants from failed states like Venezuela and Haiti. The material for these poorly made products, which is taken out of the earth in mainly poor Asian and African countries with dubious contracts with giant Chinese companies all over the planet, enable tens of thousands of poor undocumented migrants to support themselves in their host countries. However, this type of market destroys long time local business that actually pay rent and taxes that support the infrastructure of the cities and towns as these illegal vendors pay no taxes unless it is to a criminal cartel that extorts them for the space they place their blanket or booth on sidewalks, on in bike lanes and streets. "Ambulantes" as people call them are plastic and metal shade cover structures that are placed over sidewalk spots and provide shade to the street vendors. Dozens and sometimes hundreds of these booths spring up all over cities and turn once mellow neighborhoods into areas of abject violence. Foreign and local gangs have knife and metal weapon fights as well as running gun battles over turf between different groups of migrants. Extortion, kidnapping and decapitations go down as well and this issue is sending native citizens into a xenophobic fervor against migrants from Venezuela, Haiti and Colombia as we see in Chile which just elected the most extreme right wing President since Pinochets junta ran the country. Sometimes it gets so crowded in this areas that people cannot go in and out of their houses or escape the violence that all this illegality brings to their barrios. All this Chinese garbage comes out of large warehouse buildings called "bodegas" where long lines of migrants wait to buy and fill up their stolen shopping carts with the products that the Chinese merchants have imported into the country. These foreigner vendors leave giant piles of plastic garbage in the streets for the local citizens to pay to clean up. I recently read where the German trade delegation visiting in China brought up this issue of the same problem happening in Germany where it is also ruining long time established small businesses and it is a sticking point for them in negations for future trade deals with the Chinese so, I am pretty sure the problem is world wide. Funny how the Chinese government does not allow many other nations to import anything into China that is not quality all the while the rape the planet for these materials and destroy societies at the same time.
