Update on ICE's "Detention Reengineering Initiative": GEO Group's CEO said today that "the warehouse project has been paused, and [DHS] is evaluating how to proceed with this initiative ... " He also acknowledged that, as part of the plan, ICE is looking to buy upwards of 10 of GEO's existing jails.

"The GEO private prison group currently detains about 21,000 people in ICE custody, which is about one-third of all ICE detainees. Detainees in some of those facilities have sued GEO Group and the federal government, alleging they are being held in unconstitutionally inhumane conditions.

"There has been litigation regarding overseeing of medical services, food services, general cleanliness, etc. It's really unprecedented and, I believe it's fundamentally unconstitutional," George Zoley bellyached.

GEO Group did not respond to an email asking what, specifically, is unconstitutional about the lawsuits."

The response is that health care providers are no longer providing health care to detainees.

"George Zoley, founder and executive chairman of private prison giant The GEO Group, has deep ties to Donald Trump through substantial campaign donations, lobbying efforts, and aligning company interests with Trump's mass deportation agenda.

GEO Group has donated millions to pro-Trump PACs and benefited from contracts following Trump's 2024 election win.

The GEO Group was the first corporation to max out contributions to Trump's 2024 campaign, with its PAC and subsidiaries donating roughly ($2) million, including ($500,000) to a pro-Trump super PAC.
