Minneapolis, St. Paul propose property tax hikes, layoffs

The mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul are proposing staff layoffs and significant property tax hikes in order address budget shortfalls in both cities. Those potential increases come at a time when frustrations about property taxes are at an all-time high in Minnesota. In Minneapolis, Mayor Jacob Frey proposed raising the city's property tax levy by 11.3% and cutting 100 city jobs as part of his 2027 budget address. The layoffs and tax increase would help tackle a $60 million budget shortfall the city is facing.

IOW they spent more than they had and now they need to raise taxes, and not by a little. Heaven forbid they cut some of the "expanded services"

No, I merely point out Trump seems to have no problem with Red States, ever.

And when did Trump make cuts to Federal spending?!? He blows money like a drunken sailor on shore leave. FFS, he just passed a tax code which will force America to borrow ADDITIONAL TRILLIONS, to GIVE the money to the world's wealthiest. $5-7 Trillion, once interest is included.

idk he might have, but this is just the local government overspending, not a lack of revenues.

Minneapolis expects total city revenue to reach roughly $2.3 billion for the upcoming budget year, up from $1.91 billion in the 2025 adopted budget.
The $1.91 Billion is a 2.2% percent increase from the 2024 adopted budget of $1.84 billion,
