... Researchers who track online influence operations and lawmakers who've been briefed by the intelligence community say Kremlin-backed groups are renewing familiar tactics they've used to sow distrust and discord in previous elections in the U.S. and around the world.

"It's a carnival out there," Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut, the ranking member on the House intelligence committee, told reporters this week. "They're throwing everything out there to generate a sense of chaos and anarchy."

The goal is to exacerbate divisions, erode confidence in democracy and, crucially, undermine U.S. support for Ukraine.

"At the end of the day, the main issue for Russia is and has to be Ukraine," said Darren Linvill, co-director of Clemson University's Media Forensics Hub, who has tracked foreign propaganda campaigns for years.

Linvill says the Russian playbook is consistent. A false claim or divisive narrative is seeded on social media or on a fake website posing as a news organization or think tank. It's spread by state media, automated fake accounts or, increasingly, paid influencers, in the hopes that it gets seen and repeated by real people. ...

Does anyone with half a brain think Putin would want Trump over Biden? The Iranian regime wants the Dems to win, Putin wants the Dems to win. The Russian hoax initiated by the Dems, Hillary and Obama, has already back fired. You stooges need some new lies to spew. Should be easy

Even those with a half brain knows putin works hard to put and keep trump in power.

Those with less than half a brain like yourself still can't see it.

BTW fishpaw - why did trump choose russian asset paul manafort as his campaign manager, out of everyone in the world he could have picked? Did trump intentionally bring a russian asset into his inner circle, or is he so easily manipulated that russia can install an asset in his inner circle without trump knowing?

Marco Rubio thinks that.
He's got a half a brain (liberal estimate).

Paul Manafort's presence on the Trump Campaign and proximity to then-Candidate Trump created opportunities for Russian intelligence services to exert influence over, and acquire confidential information on, the Trump Campaign.

George Papadopoulos was not a witting cooptee of the Russian intelligence services, but nonetheless presented a prime intelligence target and potential vector for malign Russian influence.

Russia took advantage of members of the Transition Team's relative inexperience in government, opposition to Obama Administration policies, and Trump's desire to deepen ties with Russia to pursue unofficial channels through which Russia could conduct diplomacy.
