White House press secretary seeks to clarify Musk's role in DOGE
www.washingtonpost.com
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt sought to clarify Elon Musk's role within the U.S. DOGE Service after a court filing this morning said the tech billionaire is neither an employee nor administrator of the commission and has "no actual or formal authority to make government decisions."
"Elon Musk is a special government employee here at the White House serving at the direction of the president of the United States, Donald Trump," Leavitt reiterated during a Fox News segment Tuesday, adding that Musk "has been tasked with overseeing DOGE on behalf of the president."
"That's the way DOGE has been set up and that's the way it will continue to operate," Leavitt said.
The comments seem to contradict the filing, which came from the White House Office of Administration earlier this morning, as well as statements from Trump and Musk himself. No formal administrator has been named as the leader of DOGE, the filing stated, adding ambiguity about Musk and who is legally in charge of the DOGE effort.
When reports emerged that Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson's office had ordered a $31,000 dining room table set with taxpayer funds, Tenney blamed the "deep state" for the expenditure, adding, "I know that Ben Carson did not order that table. It has nothing to do with him. He comes from, you know, poverty."
