And:
The number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births rose in those states from an average of 5.93 to 6.26. In real terms, this amounted to several hundred more infant deaths country-wide after abortion bans came in. The study found there were an "estimated 478 excess infant deaths in the 14 states with bans during the months affected by bans". There was an increase in the number of newborn babies dying as a result of "congenital causes", suggesting that these may previously have been pregnancies that would have been terminated to prevent a baby from being born suffering from an unsurvivable genetic condition. This was described in the study as a result of the "continuation of pregnancies with nonviable fetuses that might not have continued in the absence of abortion bans". There was also a particular increase in infant deaths for black babies, a group that already had higher than average infant mortality rates due to "long-standing racial and ethnic disparities in infant health", the researchers noted.

Yeah, but, Republicans like to pass laws that make them feel good.
Who cares if babies are dying as long as abortion is illegal.
Children dying is as American as Apple pie!
Thoughts and prayers!

"Republicans like to pass laws that make them feel good"
And what makes them feel good is hurting someone or smashing something.
These are sick and stupid people.

How's ------- doing on lowering those prices?
He said it was going to be hard to do.
Especially since he doesn't give a ---- and isn't even trying.
You idiots shouldn't reproduce...you're too dumb to keep the genetic line going.

"And what makes them feel good is hurting someone or smashing something."
There's a lof of idealism at play here, where people think the ends justify the means and don't think about unintended consequences.

Up for what time periods? How much does the rate usually fluctuate between time periods?

Doesn't really matter, the question is how many babies have been saved .. here's a hint...
this amounted to several hundred more infant deaths country-wide after abortion bans came in.

"That women will be injured and killed by unsafe outlaw abortions and by forced pregnancies is not a great concern of the birth forcers - those wayward women should have known better than to get pregnant out of wedlock in the first place, and if raped oh well, the growing soul inside them takes priority to its reproductive vessel who needs to understand their Godly prolife duty. If a woman who would have gotten a legal termination if she could because it is safer than not having one happens to die from what seemed like a normal pregnancy oh well that's too bad, it's God's Will anyhow, and if she was right with Christ she is in a better place so what is the big problem. The wastage of pregnant women is well worth the glorious aims of the prolifers."

" Up for what time periods?"
During the bans and new restrictions, it would follow.
"How much does the rate usually fluctuate between time periods?
Without looking, I'd bet the average rate fluctuation is less than this current 5.5% rise.
It's also to be expected, when you turn the macro dials in that direction.

This information would have more impact if they compared it to the infant mortality rates in states that didn't restrict abortion access.
It increased in the states that restricted abortion access.....fine. But compared to what?
You know they have that information.
