Central Valley farmers want free water, for use in watering crops like cotton, which consumes a great deal of water and also ravages the soil. California reservoirs are at normal levels for this time of year. This is the rainy season, and it will last for two more months. Snowpack has been good so far in the state.
The situation with water is laughable, considering the re-appearance of Tulare Lake last year. It was once one of the largest lakes in the US, and farmers and engineers worked the water flow, the course of rivers and the land to remove it from existence. That it re-appeared was a testament to the amount of water that was available, after years of significant drought.
