The Queens-Midtown Tunnel reopened both tubes to traffic Wednesday evening after a contractor mistakenly drilled a hole into the roof of one the tubes, shutting it down. The hole allowed water from the East River to leak into the south tube of the tunnel.

@#20 ... He was certainly sane enough in 2016 to realize what a golden opportunity had just fallen into his lap to enrich himself financially. The GOP is responsible for making the world Trump's oyster. ...
To that end, I do note the response of the uber-wealthy who may have known fmr Pres Trump back in 2016.
Greenwich, Connecticut
en.wikipedia.org
... Wealth
Greenwich is home to three of the wealthiest zip codes in Connecticut, 06878, 06830 and 06831, with average adjusted gross incomes of $754,990, $638,560 and $721,550, and median household incomes of $182,386, $109,250 and $155,417, respectively.[31] In recent decades, the town has attracted wealthy expatriates from around the globe due to its extremely low tax rate,[32] desirable school system, and proximity to Manhattan, which is an hour by Metro North.[33] ...
Yeah, that proximity to Manhattan likely means that the residents of Greenwich knew about fmr Pres Trump back in the day.
... Voting History
Greenwich, Connecticut was a mostly Democrat jurisdiction up through 1892, voting for the Democrat in 13 of the 17 presidential elections from that party's founding in the mid-1820s up through 1892.
Then the GOP would win Greenwich in 27 of the 28 presidential elections from 1896 to 2004, and in three of the last four presidential elections, the Democrat has carried the town. ...
Gee, I wonder why those in Greenwich, who may have known fmr Pres Trump, did not vote for him?
Yeah, "leak" may be an understatement.
Queens-Midtown Tunnel fully reopens with delays after water leaks inside
abc7ny.com
... MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Cathy Sheridan said the contractor drilled a roughly 2.5-inch hole into the cast iron liner above the exhaust duct, causing saltwater to leak into the tunnel.
"They were doing investigative drilling to determine geo-technical conditions in the river. This is an important part of the design process," said EDC Chief Infrastructure Officer Joshn Kraus.
The leak led to a temporary shutdown of both the north and south tubes as crews investigated the source of the leak, creating a traffic nightmare Wednesday afternoon. ...
OK, for me a 2.5 inch hole into a tunnel from the river above is a bit more than a "leak."
But, that's just me.

3 Things Utilities Can Do to Prepare the Power Grid for More Electric Cars (April 17)
www.evconnect.com
... Can the power grid actually handle that many electric cars?
In simplest terms, yes, it can.
But the deeper answer is a bit more complicated. The capacity is there, but to truly handle this new surge in EV grid demand, it will take planning on the part of utility companies across the U.S. ...
So, their answer really seems to be ~no, the utilities cannot handle to lewd without changes.~
And I would agree with that assessment.

Ford Pulls Back Further From EVs With $1.9 Billion SUV Pivot (August 21, 2024)
www.bnnbloomberg.ca
... Ford Motor Co. is recalibrating its electrification strategy yet again, canceling plans for a fully electric sport utility vehicle in a shift that may cost the carmaker around $1.9 billion.[emphasis mine]
In addition to scrapping an all-electric three-row SUV that already had been delayed, Ford will further postpone a next-generation electric pickup and reduce spending on EVs to 30% of its annual capital expenditures, from about 40% previously. The automaker also announced Wednesday it's shaking up battery-sourcing plans, citing the need to better compete with lower-cost Chinese competitors.
The actions amount to further pullback by Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley, who initially accelerated Ford's shift to EVs when he took over the top job almost four years ago. The automaker incurred significant costs spooling up production as industry sales growth began to taper off, leading Ford to forecast that its EV unit will lose as much as $5.5 billion this year.
Farley is now betting Ford can deliver EVs that are priced on par with traditional vehicles, including a battery-powered midsize pickup truck due to debut in 2027, and turn a profit on these models within a year after they launch. ...
Yeah, why would I want to pay so much more for an EV with all the downsides of owing an EV vehicle?
