Last Friday night's WNBA showdown between Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky set an ION television ratings record with an average of 1.6 million viewers and peaked at 1.92 million viewers. It is the most-viewed game in the history of the ION network, and it beat out every college football game that aired on various networks on Friday night in ratings.

Clark is obviously a key reason for the ratings jump across the WNBA this season, as out of the 21 games that have drawn at least one million viewers, 18 of them have included Clark and the Fever. Reese has brought plenty of fanfare of her own to the WNBA, so it's no surprise that the late-season matchup featuring the duo shattered WNBA television records.

It's been a particularly strong season for WNBA basketball on the ION network, as games this season have averaged 639,000 viewers, which represents a 123% increase compared to the average of 287,000 viewers last year.

Granted, the Oklahoma-Temple football game on Friday night wasn't going to be a ratings juggernaut anyway, it's still remarkable that a WNBA regular season game among 2 teams with then sub-.500 records, broadcast on the lowly ION network, outdrew mighty ESPN's and other sports network's audiences for college football's opening weekend.

Just another signpost on the road being traveled by one of the most popular athletes on the planet and her team, now playoff bound for the first time in 8 seasons.

This deserves a replay.

American white supremacist racism on full display in the CC era.

CC wasn't good enough to even be on the Olympic team.

The Fever aren't even that good. Watching Angel, and Chennedy dismantle the Fever this year has been glorious.

But a good white player is all it took for all the Pom poms to come out.

And that single Sky win was by a single point after they overcame a 15 point deficit.

Friday night's game found the Fever up 27 midway thru the 4th before benching their starters.

However, Angel Reese was left in the game to chase points to maintain her double-double record totals. And she succeeded, scoring a lay up with about a minute left that got her above 10 points, long after the outcome was decided - against the Fever's bench players.

CC finished tonight's game against LA with 24 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds for her 2nd triple double of the season as the Fever win 93-86.

Yeah, I am of two, very distinct opinions here.

1) pro sports - it is about the money. Period, full stop.

2) women pro sports - well, yeah it is good to see women sport participants boarding the pro-sports gravy train.

The real grift for pro sports owners is the side deals they get with every new stadium project as if the extortion of the taxpayer to pay for it wasn't bad enough. It's the infrastructure and land grab around the stadiums that go to the owners privately.

Caitlin Clark and Fever Beat NBA In Viewership

According to Sports Media Watch, the Fever have been part of four of the nine most watched games on NBA TV this year. With the team's recent contest against the Dallas Wings out rating'd every game on the channel since a playoff game between the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks in 2023.

Clark and company have captured two of the top three spots on NBA TV, with the two highest rated contests being the most recent ones.

This goes to show that even if some of the attention around CC was out of curiosity, the interest has continued to build as the season has gone along. And with the Fever playing at the level they are, viewers are being treated to an exciting show on the floor.
