Even JeffJ can recognize that the leader minting a coin in his own image is Banana Republic fascism.

He can't say it out loud, but he can recognize it.

But I don't think BillJohnson can recognize it.

It's crazy to think had all this gone down in the 80s, my mom would likely be sent to the camps and maybe eventually deported.

Instead she became a citizen and spent the next two decades working for the Federal Government.

At the State level, it's more like what Eberly said.

I don't know if this stat still holds, but many years ago -- Most people had a favorable view of their particular Congressional representatives, but held Congress as a whole in very low esteem.

Republicans control all three branches of Federal Government.

At the national level, those are the same thing.

Maybe the problem is complex, but the immediate solution -- stopping all these ICE raids, emptying the camps -- is so simple, even a Republican can understand it.

We aren't going to kill our economy to satisfy people who have a political axe to grind.

One reason Republicans mythologize the Self Made Man so fervently is to whitewash the historical fact that slaves are the only reason this country was economically successful.

Were not a self made country, and there are no self made men.

But boy, do these Republicans born on third base in a ballpark built by slaves sure think they hit a triple.

Fourteen of our first sixteen Presidents owned slaves. Historically illiterate Republicans still insist the White Man built America.

Republicans sure do love pointless, unnecessary paperwork.

Paperwork that only exists to deter people from engaging government services in the first place.

Because Reconciliation was effectively sabotaged by the South and as a result was a complete failure. The result was that the North won the War but lost the Peace.

It's not really talked about honestly. Most people thought slavery was immoral and should be ended. Very few people thought the slaves should be granted equal status with free men.

That's why we had Jim Crow. Because most people wanted Jim Crow.

Millions of people still want Jim Crow today. People like BillJohnson, who simply wants trans people to stop existing in public. Most every Republican has some sort of refrain where people should stick to their own kind, immigrants should give up any cultural traditions that make Republicans uncomfortable, drag queens shouldn't be legally allowed to read stories to children, and so on.

The Republican Party is the party of sending innocent people to camps for indefinite detention for the paperwork crime of not having their papers in order.

Which of those do you think is the lesser evil?

Do sanctuary cities protect people without papers so they can safely report it to the police when criminals are taking advantage of them?

Does getting rid of sanctuary cities mean people without papers get sent to the camps for reporting a crime, which significantly helps criminals exploit people without papers?

No new law needed to accomplish that.

That's just liberal judges doing their activism and legislating from the bench, and ICE is right to ignore those orders.

Also, the fact that ICE is routinely violating the law is completely separate from the "allegations" of these deportees.

It's completely unfair to judge ICE as untrustworthy and deceitful as an organization, just because of a mere 4,400 rulings that ICE is detaining people illegally.

Sounds like she has some paperwork to renew in the next eighteen months.

So, they won't send you to the camps indefinitely.
But that's pretty much the same thing, right?

So...correct me if I'm wrong, but they're free to leave the US whenever they want, no?

These people are such a threat to the nation that they need to be rounded up en masse and sent to camps.
