  • Police in Mexico detained a suspect known as M-47 who may have ordered the mass killing of the music band Grupo Fugitivo in Tamaulipas state. Relatives of the band members received ransom demands after the men's disappearance; four days later their bodies were discovered. 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with this heinous murder. The Gulf Cartel has its stronghold in Tamaulipas state and engages in the smuggling of drugs and migrants across the US-Mexico border, as well as kidnapping for ransom. Unclear is why the members of Grupo Fugitivo were targeted.
  • A fire killed 12 and injured three people who were reportedly locked up inside a drug rehab center in the violence-plagued Mexican state of Guanajuato. Mexico's privately run drug rehabilitation centers are often abusive, clandestine, unregulated, and underfunded. Rehab centers like this one have been the targets of similar attacks in the past.     Eleven people were stabbed in a church-run homeless shelter in Salem, Oregon, directly across from the local police HQ. At least one member of staff at the Union Gospel Mission in Salem is among the wounded following the shocking scenes at around 1900 HRS Sunday. The 11 wounded were rushed to a Salem hospital with "varying types of injuries. The suspect, who is in custody and pictured below, had arrived at the mission the previous night and was about to check into the 150-person ministry again for a second night when he started brawling just as he was supposed to hand his belongings over to staff. Good thing the suspect wasn't armed with a firearm or there would have been fatalities and more injuries, like other typical mass casualty attacks in the US that we are all accustomed to. Read more

    A Flathead County jury on Friday found a former Republican political strategist guilty on two counts of stalking based on texts, emails and letters he sent to and about his victim, as well as incendiary flyers he distributed in late 2023 and early 2024. Billings resident Daniel Duffey, 40, appeared in Flathead County District Court on Tuesday for what became a four-day jury trial. Over that time, Flathead County Attorney Travis Ahner and other prosecutors presented evidence that Duffey sent repeated, unwanted messages to the victim, the victim's wife and other members of the couple's family before eventually traveling to the county during their wedding celebrations.
