For the second time this summer, a local Republican activist, campaign worker and former candidate has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex felonies. Last week agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrested Gage Montoya, of Trinidad, on multiple child pornography and weapons charges. This happened about three months after Weld GOP Chair Hunter Rivera's arrest in May for attempted sexual assault on a child and three other related felonies.


New 50% U.S. tariffs on about $20 billion of Canadian goods took effect Saturday after last-minute trade negotiations collapsed, prompting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to pledge matching retaliation, Bloomberg reported. The duties apply to hundreds of Canadian products, including plywood, alcoholic beverages, electrical equipment and hockey gear. Carney said Canada would respond "dollar for dollar" to protect domestic workers and businesses.

A Security Aviation aircraft carrying a pilot and seven passengers crashed Thursday en route to Southwest Alaska, authorities say. The Cessna 441 was bound from Anchorage to Cape Newenham, according to National Transportation Safety Board investigator Millicent Hill. The plane crashed west of Cape Newenham's airport around 12:15 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It departed from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Read more
