MIAMI (AP) " An Amazon cargo plane barreled off a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, striking vehicles, bursting into flames and sending thick black smoke into the sky in a crash that shut down flights at one of the nation's busiest airports. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the crash, arriving to find the aircraft on fire as crews worked to extinguish the flames and assess patients. Officials had not yet released information on injuries or deaths. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft overran the runway around 2 p.m. after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the plane struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the FAA was sending investigators and issued a full ground stop at Miami International as emergency crews responded.

Karmelo Anthony's family is seeking another $250,000 to fund his appeal after an earlier campaign raised nearly $634,000 and faced questions over how the money was spent, the family announced at a news conference in Dallas, Texas. The fundraising push came nearly two weeks after a judge denied Anthony's request for a new trial. His family and supporters, including attorney Russell Wilson, used the Dallas news conference to outline the appeal. Anthony, 19, was sentenced to 35 years in prison in June after a jury convicted him of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. He has appealed and says he cannot afford to hire an attorney for the appeal.

Thomas Ross, who won the Republican nomination for Missouri's 161st House District by only 32 votes, was charged Wednesday with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. A criminal complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri alleges Ross spent weeks discussing a plan to plant the drugs on Louise Secker, his opponent in the Aug. 4 Republican primary.

Former Arkansas state Rep. Austin McCollum has been charged with three felonies after his wife accused him in a court filing of a pattern of violent abuse, including telling her to kill herself and offering to fetch a gun when she described suicidal thoughts. "There was blood everywhere and I couldn't see," the petition states. "He grabbed my hair and slammed my head to the ground multiple times." The attack stopped only when McCollum told her to clean up the blood, she wrote, and that was when she fled and called 911. Deputies who responded reported that McCollum appeared intoxicated and that he had blood on his arms and legs and injuries to his knuckles, according to the affidavit.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), a former member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is calling on President Trump to fire Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over what he called Hegseth's "inept management" of the military. Tillis stepped up his criticism of Hegseth's leadership after Army Secretary Dan Driscoll announced his resignation after repeatedly clashing with Hegseth over the ouster of senior officials, such as Gen.
