President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Monday aimed at bringing down near-record diesel prices by waiving restrictions on cheaper red-dyed diesel. Speaking at a campaign event in Nebraska, a state hit hard by the spike in diesel prices, Trump said the order will "allow anyone to purchase tax-free red-dyed diesel for any reason." Read more

City police say they were not aware that a white supremacist group was demonstrating outside their department Saturday night until after they were gone.
Imagine starting a fire and then standing by and filming with your mobile phone while a firefighter is engulfed in flames. That is one of the scenes emerging from France's latest wave of unrest. Elsewhere, rioters have doused a teacher in petrol, looted businesses, and set vehicles and schools on fire. The fact that many of the rioters are looting while waving Algerian and Palestinian flags is just a symptom of a much larger, unspoken failure. The ostensible grievance is the condition of French education. The proposed remedy, apparently, is fewer teachers and more ashes.
An escalating civil war is tearing apart Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s MAHA movement as it struggles to make an impact in the midterms.
"I don't control message or what we're doing," Texas GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton said during a small fundraising event in September.
Ken Paxton is less than a month out from the conclusion of a D.C.-outsider campaign for a Texas U.S. Senate seat that he privately admitted is being run by Washington.
"I've never been in a race where I felt less control over the campaign and, like, what issues are going to matter because it's all coming " you know " from D.C.," Paxton said during a small fundraising event last month, according to an audio recording obtained by POLITICO from a person in the room who does not support Paxton, and verified by another attendee.

Okinawa police arrested a U.S. Marine early Sunday on suspicion of killing a Japanese woman and stealing her belongings at a hotel in the prefectural capital. Lance Cpl. Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, is suspected of killing Anna Yagi, 39, of Naha, early Saturday at a hotel in the city's Wakasa district, an Okinawa Prefectural Police spokesman said by phone Sunday. Police did not identify the hotel but provided a block number. Based on that and photos published by Okinawa Television, it is Naminoue Crystal Hotel. Police allege Ballard stole the woman's wallet and another item and killed her sometime between 2:10 a.m. and 4:17 a.m., the spokesman said.
Colorado State's 56-26 loss against Oregon State wasn't without controversy. It just happened to take place on the sidelines as opposed to the field. The Rams announced that they were sacking second-year defensive coordinator Tyson Summers. The transaction appears to have been at least partially influenced by Summer's exit partway through the team's defeat. Summers stepped away from his program halfway through Colorado State's loss. He disappeared into the locker room at halftime, never to return.
An editorial in the Chicago Tribune laments what might have been had "Kenneth C. Griffin not become so frustrated with the state of Illinois as to move himself and much of the financial company he founded, Citadel, to Miami." The Tribune is responding to the news that Mr. Griffin is moving a whole lot more to Florida after departing the expensive dysfunction of Illinois governance.
When the Empire State conducted barbaric prisoner executions by electric chair until 1963, the terminator was euphemistically titled New York State Electrician. Famous victims of Thomas Edison's rocking chair included railroaded immigrants Sacco and Vanzetti (1927) and atomic spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (1953). The first woman electrocuted in New York was Ruth Snyder (1928), whose insurance murder scheme was the genesis of the classic 1944 film Double Indemnity. Besides the inhumanity of executing convicts, when spies or serial murderers are liquidated, their secrets go to the grave with them. Such villains may wish an improvement in their hellish conditions, such as a newer cell, more time in the prison yard under the sun, or an increase in cigarette rations. In exchange, these malefactors would provide information to investigators on a cold case or other national security secrets they purloined. The lives of three of the five NYS "electricians" did not unfold well.
The latest sales tax increase in Los Angeles County took effect Thursday after voters approved a half-cent hike in June to support health care and other essential services. The Essential Services Restoration Act, known as Measure ER, increased the county's baseline sales tax rate from 9.75% to 10.25%. The increase is temporary. Measure ER allows the tax to remain in effect through Oct. 1, 2031, and is projected to generate about $1 billion annually. Sales tax exemptions include groceries, prescription medications, and medical equipment. Read more
In December 2025, about a month before the U.S. invaded Venezuela and captured its president, Nicolas Maduro, President Trump had a secret meeting with Elon Musk, Time magazine reports. This was roughly seven months after Musk left his role in the Trump administration at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). During this meeting, Trump "spent hours" talking to Musk's Grok chatbot, including asking how Venezuelans would respond to the capture of their president, a source told Time.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday called on Americans to vote against President Trump ahead of the midterm elections to change U.S. policy toward Tehran and accept the offer of a "peaceful coexistence." IRGC spokesperson Gen. Hossein Mohebbi made the request in a 25-page letter, marking seven months since Iran's conflict with the U.S. and Israel began in late February.

Steve Hilton came in with next to no chance of becoming the next California governor, but maybe if he focused on touting the feel-good messages he's been spouting since launching his campaign in front of the Huntington Beach Pier earlier this year " Make California Gold Again! Califordable! I'm a Legal Immigrant with a British Accent! " he might've convinced at least a few voters to go with him. Instead, Hilton debated like someone already preparing to launch a podcast or beg for his old Fox News job back after he gets walloped. When your solution for solving California's housing crisis is building 10 new cities, you're not running for California governor " you're angling for an influencer job with the Irvine Co. Read more
(Theory of Stupidity)
Why do smart, educated people often give up their own judgment? Three weeks before his execution in 1943, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote a chilling breakdown of human psychology from a Nazi prison cell:
"Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice."
In this video, we unpack Bonhoeffer's Theory of Stupidity"explaining why evil has limits, why facts cannot cure a closed mind, and how group identity forces good people to stop thinking for themselves.
