President Donald Trump's administration is weighing lifting more sanctions on Russia, this time on a multi-billion account that U.S. officials have described as Russian President Vladimir Putin's "slush fund." Russia could see more sanction relief soon with restrictions potentially being lifted on Russian Direct Investment Fund, which is run by Kirill Dmitriev and has a long history of foreign investments, The New York Times reported this week, citing people familiar with the negotiations. Russian officials have been pushing for the sanction relief amid talks about a diesel deal between the country and the U.S.
Progressive Twitch streamer Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings on Tuesday, accusing him of falsely claiming Piker advocated for lynching Black Americans after airing an edited video of his remarks. The 38-page lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., centers on an Aug. 11 episode of "The Scott Jennings Show," in which Jennings shared clips of Piker claiming he had said, "the USA should resume lynchings against Black people." Piker, who threatened legal action in August over the claim and shared further context to the clips, alleges Jennings knowingly misrepresented sarcastic comments he made during his livestreams by turning it into an apparent endorsement of racial violence.

Neil Young says President Trump's fundraising committee is breaking a vow that "it would never again use Rockin' in the Free World'" at a campaign rally, and the musician is filing a $10 million copyright infringement lawsuit.
The "Heart of Gold" singer filed the suit against the Trump 47 Committee on Monday. In the filing, Young alleges that his 1989 hit was played just before Trump took the stage at a Youngstown, Ohio, rally on Oct. 12.
The lawsuit described the tune as a "blistering anthem that contrasts the hollow promises of American political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by the poor, homeless and forgotten."

During a Democratic Party POTUS debate on 27 June 2019, Kamala Harris (D-CA) tagged former VPOTUS Joe Biden (D-DE) for his abysmal 1970s record on racial desegregation. The attack came after Biden came under harsh criticism for boasting about his ability to form personal relationships with race-baiting former Senators James Eastland (D-MS) and Herman Talmadge (D-GA). "It was hurtful," Harris said, to hear Biden speak of his bonds with those racist senators. Senator Harris then related the story of a little girl who was in an early wave of children to integrate schools in California, ending the anecdote with these words: "That little girl was me." To better understand the bigoted white Catholic milieu that Joe Biden grew up with in Scranton, PA (before his family moved to Claymont, DE in 1953), watch That Championship Season (1982) starring Robert Mitchum, Stacy Keach, Bruce Dern, Martin Sheen, and Paul Sorvino (71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes).
During the Algerian 132-year struggle for independence from France (1830-1962), by 1875 the French military, security services, and Foreign Legion had liquidated an estimated 500,000 " 1,000,000 Algerians; 1.5 million people were killed in the 1954 " 1962 independence war. On 7 May 1945, when the guns finally fell silent all over Europe, the French military borrowed British warplanes to bomb Algerian freedom fighters. In 1962 when President Charles DeGaulle decided to grant Algeria independence, the French far-right (OAS) conspired to assassinate him, fictionalized in the novel The Day of the Jackal (Frederick Forsyth, 1971). An important film depicting French police brutality and oppression against the Algerians was The Battle of Algiers (1966), which starred one of the former FLN guerrillas tortured by les condes.

You may be thinking: That is so Idaho.
Whether that's good or bad is up to voters.
The Gem State will become the 11th state to designate an official state gun. Utah was the first, choosing the M1911 in 2011.
In Idaho, House Bill 932 is the reason voters will get to make their pick on the ballot. The bill passed unanimously in both the Idaho House and Senate during the 2026 legislative session.
The official ballot question asks voters: "Which of the following guns should be designated as the state gun of Idaho?" Voters are instructed to choose only one. The six choices are the Winchester Model 1894 (.30-30); Winchester Model 1873 "Gun that Won the West" (.44-40); 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver "Peacemaker" (.45 Colt); M1 Garand rifle (.30-06); Colt M1911 .45 automatic Colt pistol (.45 ACP); and Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle (.30-06).

Police in the south German state of Bavaria have detained a suspect during a fire at Adolf Hitler's Alpine mountain retreat, the Kehlsteinhaus, also known as the Eagle's Nest. Dispatchers in Traunstein received a fire alarm from the building at 21:15 (19:15 GMT) on Friday, and firefighters found it engulfed in flames. The Nazi dictator used the retreat, which lies above the town of Berchtesgaden, as a part-time seat of government and met commanders there to plan the invasion of the USSR in 1941. A criminal investigation is under way to determine whether the suspect is connected to the fire.

Ukraine's military on Friday struggled with a still-slowed Starlink satellite system despite President Trump's promise a day earlier that SpaceX owner Elon Musk had restored the service.
Connections with Starshield " the military version of Starlink, a major tool for Ukraine to defend itself from missile and drone attacks from Russia " continued to fail in most of the country if drones flew faster than 100 mph, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there, and the speed has not been restored," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in remarks on Friday.
He said Ukraine hopes SpaceX and the Trump administration will fully restore the service: "We count on such decisions."
