For two years, we've been trudging through sludge, trapped in Trump's MAGgoty reality-show rerun. We wake up every morning to the dread realization that a demented conman in a mangy rug still occupies the glitzed-up Oval Office (or as Obama put it, Saddam Hussein's version of a Cheesecake Factory) But is the Ceausescu balcony moment drawing near on Nov 3?

A federal judge on Tuesday ruled that Bill Essayli is unlawfully serving as Los Angeles' top federal prosecutor and ordered him disqualified from overseeing two criminal cases, rejecting the Justice Department's latest effort to preserve his authority. Senior U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright, however, delayed the disqualifications from taking effect while he considers an anticipated government request for a stay pending appeal. The dispute is part of a nationwide battle over the Trump administration's efforts to install its chosen prosecutors without Senate confirmation. Alina Habba stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor in December after an appeals court found her appointment unlawful. In Virginia, a judge's finding that Lindsey Halligan was unlawfully appointed led to the dismissal of indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Atty. Gen. Letitia James.

The Trump administration suffered a significant appellate loss in a case over an eleventh-hour request to throw out or set aside vote-by-mail ballots that may be cast by some 20,000 people in California. In the case, the U.S. Department of Justice said it provided Los Angeles elections officials with a list of people the government refers to as "likely noncitizens," many of whom live in Los Angeles County. Local officials declined the federal push to have those names removed from voting rolls and, two days later, the DOJ sued, alleging the state was "knowingly" facilitating "unlawful voting." But the judge ignored that unilateral timeline, so the DOJ complained about a "constructive denial" and a quick appeal was filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit over the weekend. Working expeditiously, a 9th Circuit panel ruled against the Trump administration on Monday, citing the government's own impatience.

Conservative provocateur James O'Keefe has been criminally charged over a polling place stunt meant to expose supposed weaknesses in Minnesota's election laws. The charges stem from videos the pair posted online in August during Minnesota's primary election. In the footage, one member of the group, which calls itself the "Justice League," is dressed in a burqa, while another man can be heard using an accent as he tries to vouch for others.

During a Democratic Party POTUS debate on 27 June 2019, Kamala Harris (D-CA) tagged former VPOTUS Joe Biden (D-DE) for his abysmal 1970s record on racial desegregation. The attack came after Biden came under harsh criticism for boasting about his ability to form personal relationships with race-baiting former Senators James Eastland (D-MS) and Herman Talmadge (D-GA). "It was hurtful," Harris said, to hear Biden speak of his bonds with those racist senators. Senator Harris then related the story of a little girl who was in an early wave of children to integrate schools in California, ending the anecdote with these words: "That little girl was me." To better understand the bigoted white Catholic milieu that Joe Biden grew up with in Scranton, PA (before his family moved to Claymont, DE in 1953), watch That Championship Season (1982) starring Robert Mitchum, Stacy Keach, Bruce Dern, Martin Sheen, and Paul Sorvino (71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes).

During the Algerian 132-year struggle for independence from France (1830-1962), by 1875 the French military, security services, and Foreign Legion had liquidated an estimated 500,000 " 1,000,000 Algerians; 1.5 million people were killed in the 1954 " 1962 independence war. On 7 May 1945, when the guns finally fell silent all over Europe, the French military borrowed British warplanes to bomb Algerian freedom fighters. In 1962 when President Charles DeGaulle decided to grant Algeria independence, the French far-right (OAS) conspired to assassinate him, fictionalized in the novel The Day of the Jackal (Frederick Forsyth, 1971). An important film depicting French police brutality and oppression against the Algerians was The Battle of Algiers (1966), which starred one of the former FLN guerrillas tortured by les condes.

Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," about Obama's past comments, Whitmer responded, saying, "Listen, I have got a lot of colleagues who I think are probably interested in running for president, and I've heard everyone say you can't have this person' or that person.'"

You may be thinking: That is so Idaho.

Whether that's good or bad is up to voters.

The Gem State will become the 11th state to designate an official state gun. Utah was the first, choosing the M1911 in 2011.

In Idaho, House Bill 932 is the reason voters will get to make their pick on the ballot. The bill passed unanimously in both the Idaho House and Senate during the 2026 legislative session.

The official ballot question asks voters: "Which of the following guns should be designated as the state gun of Idaho?" Voters are instructed to choose only one. The six choices are the Winchester Model 1894 (.30-30); Winchester Model 1873 "Gun that Won the West" (.44-40); 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver "Peacemaker" (.45 Colt); M1 Garand rifle (.30-06); Colt M1911 .45 automatic Colt pistol (.45 ACP); and Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle (.30-06).
