Syrian rebels breach Aleppo amid surprise offensive

Syrian rebels have reportedly breached the city of Aleppo itself, according to open source analysts and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, as thousands of insurgent fighters make startling advances in their surprise offensive against President Bashar al-Assad's regime in northwestern Syria. Videos circulating online appear to show rebels in the outskirts of Aleppo, Syria's second largest city. The rebels launched a major offensive three days ago and since then have moved swiftly towards Aleppo, capturing swathes of countryside and villages. The offensive reignites the frontline in Syria for the first time in years and the Assad regime and its allies Russia and Hezbollah appear to be struggling to hold it back.

Gary Johnson: "What is Aleppo?"

Libertarians : "He's got my vote!"

'Gary Johnson: "What is Aleppo?"'

That was the stupidest political 'controversy' ever. The question came out of nowhere with no context, and the interviewer pronounced it like it was two words, 'a leppo'.

Of course, Johnson's later reaction when a journalist asked him about it when walking down the street was devastating, but that's not what you're squirting about.

'Libertarians : "He's got my vote!"'

Anyone who votes Libertarian (or any other third party) knows it's effectively a protest vote, but it does help the party get more funding and recognition in the next cycle. If Democrats didn't spend so much time trashing Libertarians and Greens, they might have gotten more of their votes.

Not really a surprise is it?

The rebels launched a major offensive three days ago and since then have moved swiftly towards Aleppo, capturing swathes of countryside and villages.

"Syrian rebels retake Aleppo in surprise strike against Assad

A rebel commander said a fall in Iran-backed manpower created an opening this week's assault. Iran's ally Hezbollah has suffered big losses to Israel.

Rebel commander in the Jaish al-Izza rebel brigade Mustafa Abdul Jaber said the speedy advance was due to insufficient Iran-backed manpower in the broader province. Iran's allies in the region have suffered a series of blows at the hands of Israel as the Gaza war expanded to the Middle East.

Opposition sources in touch with Turkish intelligence say Turkey had given a green light to the offensive.

The attack was the biggest since March 2020, when Russia and Turkey agreed to a deal to de-escalate the conflict. An estimated 600,000 people have been killed in the Syrian civil war, which started in March 2011." - excerpts

@#6

The MidEast is bubbling, as it had done for decades.

At this point, I am not convinced it will settle down any time soon.

Hopefully, I am wrong.
