Biden Commutes Roughly 1,500 Sentences and Pardons 39

The White House: President Biden announced that he is granting clemency to nearly 1,500 Americans - the most ever in a single day - who have shown successful rehabilitation and a strong commitment to making their communities safer. The President is commuting the sentences of close to 1,500 individuals who were placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and who have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities. He is also pardoning 39 individuals who were convicted of non-violent crimes. These actions represent the largest single-day grant of clemency in modern history.

The pardon power should be eliminated as it simply attracts corruption.

It should at least be limited to exclude anyone who is related to the president or their administration, or who had any connection to the president when they committed their crimes.

So I went and read the list. I don't recognize the names. What I do recognize is what these people did with their lives after release. Most of them seem to be non-violent offenses from their early 20s who turned their lives around despite having federal convictions.

Oh I see - Rita Crundwell. As usual you are wrong. She was not pardoned. The last year of her sentence, which she was serving at home btw, was commuted. The one I have biggest issue with was Eric Bloom's sentence commutation. He has not served enough time but probably would have been released soon anyhow. I am sure Trump has a place for him on his cabinet. BTW these people have to accept the pardons and commutations.

The only ones who would turn this down, would do so because they wouldn't be safe on the outside. The way to look at it is Biden didn't HAVE to pardon them or commute their sentences.
