Scientists in China have announced that a jumbo jet prototype built by them had managed to reach hypersonic speeds (Mach 5 and above) during a flight test.

Hardly. Hitting 0.868 Mach today is a bit more plausible than hitting 6.50 Mach 5 years ago.

Heck, Elon's roadster hit 33 Mach in 2018. Didn't prove anything.

Mach 6.5 airliner lol. It's a model on the tip of a rocket. Once you get around Mach 3 the temperatures are such that all passengers would have to wear custom space suits or everybody onboard gets baked to death when the air conditioner fails.

Do you know why we don't have supersonic airliners any more? It's because they're too expensive to maintain and waste far too much fuel. We know how to build them. We don't, because they don't make sense.
