NIH Slashes Medical Research Funding

An abrupt Friday afternoon announcement from the National Institutes of Health that it would slash support for indirect research costs paid to universities, medical centers, and other grant recipients left academics bewildered and deeply concerned that the policy change would grind scientific progress to a halt.

This has been done because Donald Trump wants Americans to live in a Third World country, and to suffer and die.

The man is insane. He has always behaved that way but now he is getting worse.

What he did here is a very, very bad thing.

MAGA suffers alongside the rest of us; and I suspect that it suffers first.

#1 | Posted by Zed at 2025-02-09 09:49 AM

If physical suffering and death don't matter to you MAGA, reflect that this is one more way that Donald hastens the Trump Recession.

If dying of measles can't capture your imagination, perhaps the prospect of permanently not having eggs and hamburger will.

#2 | Posted by Zed at 2025-02-09 09:51 AM

Well, seeing as they had a slush fund that had our tax dollars "accidentally" kill millions of people ... they'll learn to make do with less.

Also remember when some of you were staring enough Republican's died from the taxpayer funded pandemic that Democrats would have a permanent majority? Good times lolz

You want to punish Fauci for some alleged crime by destroying the entire NIH.

But you want to help kill cancer patients while you do it.

Well Zed, the measles outbreak can most likely be traced back to all the third world "migrants" Kamala and Joe let in to the country. Dignity is on the ballot, but so are diseases we took out decades ago thanks to the influx of illegals.

#21 | Posted by Bluewaffles at 2025-02-09 11:03 AM

The measles outbreak is due to the paste-eating dumfux who won't get vaccinated.

Nice try, ----------. What a ----.

According to DSHS, eight of the cases are among school-aged children and two cases are under the age of 5, adding that seven of the patients have been hospitalized.

Local health officials said all of the cases are unvaccinated and residents of Gaines County as DSHS is working with South Plains Public Health District and Lubbock Public Health to investigate the outbreak.

And not to indingeous white tribes who have a cultural value not to vaccinate...

Sure. You bet.

What part of this country and do you have kids?

And were they "home-schooled" so you wouldn't have to get you lazy ass up in the morning.

I live in west Texas and I have had more than one conversation with people who refuse vaccinations.

These are some of the same people who see "migrants" WHENEVER a brown man is stupid enough to walk on a city street.

As I have mentioned before, these are not stupid people.

EXCEPT when it comes to MAGA theology.

Then they're a pack of raging loons, tempting death at every turn.

I know some of them wo DIED from not being vaccinated.

COVID. They went hard, nasty, and fast.

#28 | Posted by Zed at 2025-02-09 11:27 AM

"the measles outbreak can most likely be traced back to all the third world "migrants" Kamala and Joe let in to the country."

It's more likely that you are lying and making ---- up as usual.

From your cdc link:

Although persons in the community affected by this outbreak had recently arrived in the United States, the index patient's arrival in Chicago months before illness onset suggests that the disease was acquired locally.

#29 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-02-09 11:27 AM

| Posted by Bluewaffles

So why, exactly, does BLUE have a problem with medical research to prevent disease and death in the United States?

You're not from here, are you?

#30 | Posted by Zed at 2025-02-09 11:29 AM

Commendable effort, but, there really is no upside to engaging attention-seeking dirtbags who probably do not even reside in this country.

No you are not. You are not sorry about any of it.

Not yet. As long as they don't come for you and yours.

But until then ... you can GFY. And then when they do come for you.. you can GFY.

According to this source the cuts are aimed at indirect costs - overhead. And the cuts bring university costs down to the same 15% indirect cap that private institutions receive.

I don't work for a fed funded entity, dips^*%.

#42 | Posted by jpw at 2025-02-09 02:29 PM

According to this source the cuts are aimed at indirect costs - overhead.

Which covers facilities and admin costs.

Most large research institutions have core facilities funded by this money that allows researchers to access equipment and methods that are waaaaaaaay too expensive to get by themselves.

Not to mention all the behind the scenes folks that manage budgets, projects, facilities maintenance ect.
