Associated Press Banned from White House over Gulf of Mexico Naming

The White House barred a credentialed Associated Press reporter and photographer from boarding the presidential airplane Friday for a weekend trip with Donald Trump, saying the news agency's stance on how to refer to the Gulf of Mexico was to blame for the exclusion.

I am shocked that this story hasn't gained more traction, but then again, that fact is an indicator of the impact on the freedom of the press is already under.

To be clear, this administration is denying access to a global news agency (the largest in the world IIRC) because that agency will not use a made up term for the Gulf of Mexico.

99% of the world still considers the Gulf of Mexico to be the Gulf of Mexico.

This is censorship people.

This is the essential purpose of the 1st Amendment's freedom of the press, that the government cannot dictate what a journalist organization publishes.

And no, jeff, advising a social media company that what is being posted might be contrary to their terms of service is NOT equivalent.

And, the fact that the other media outlets are not joining forces to support the AP is evidence that the intimidation is working.

I predicted that freedom of the press would be one of the first things attacked. And here we are.
