2nd Time in Week, Radar Screens Go Dark at Newark Airport

Radar screens at New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport shut off Friday for the second time in a week.

Breaking News: An air traffic control facility at Newark Airport suffered another radar outage, the latest disruption at one of the nation's busiest airports.

... ABC News reported that air traffic controllers were heard telling FedEx aircraft employees that their screens went blank and for the pilots to ask their companies to use its influence to get the screen issue fixed.

In a separate situation, a controller told a private jet on arrival to stay at or above 3,000 feet because of the radar outage in case the controllers couldn't make contact as the plane prepared to land.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported Friday that "there was a telecommunications outage that impacted communications and radar display at Philadelphia TRACON Area C, which guides aircraft in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport airspace," and that "the outage occurred around 3:55 a.m. on Friday ... and lasted approximately 90 seconds." ...

I'd proffer that these occurrences may happen when a TV reality star, with no apparent experience in transportation, is named as the Sec of Transportation for the Country.

Yeah, I was surprised as well about the support he got from the Democrats.

Their support seemed to be more of, well, he's not done anything that detracts, instead of, what does he have to qualify?

NY and NJ are blue states the administration is hoping to kill as many Democrats as possible.I notice the aren't having these problems in Dallas.

One sure sign of the apocalypse, at least in terms of civilizations crumbling, is when there emerges a tiny upper caste that takes it all, owns it all, and demands obsequious obedience..
And, of course, the people get sicker, and their tools...planes and cars and factories, crumble under the weigh of foreign competition.

Duh? And who takes care of the "old equipment "?

Many of the 400 fired FAA employees had titles that suggested they DID work in critical safety roles, including aviation safety assistants, flight operations program specialists, and maintenance mechanics.

3 major outages in a week! They probably ought to hire the guy back who actually maintained that system as apparently no one else left knows how to maintain it. Though first they may have to find him. He's probably out fly fishing somewhere. And I wouldn't blame him for not answering his phone. But if it was me I'd ask for double my previous salary.
