Tech billionaires Michael and Susan Dell pledged $6.25 billion to create 25 million additional "Trump Accounts," which are aimed at giving the next generation a jumpstart on savings.

Uh, hold on there, Baba Louie. Do the math. That's $250 per person. Assuming an 11% return (roughly the long term return on the S&P 500) that comes to $1,635.89 after 18 years. That's about a credit hour at some directional school college, or one class in a community college. Helpful? Yes. Very helpful, and a big impact on some young person's life? Nopenopenope...

That is always been the SOP for the GOP....pass something...talk it up as life changing when in reality it is nothing more than empty platitudes.

Then they will do something that will hurt more than help like taking career programs like
Nursing
Physician assistants
Physical therapists
Audiologists
Architects
Accountants
Educators
Social workers

and call them non-professional so they can stop funding them.

I can tell you that right now there are shortages of CPA's in my area, this will only make the problem worse.

But this was all the goal of Project 2025...to cut education funding so that only the very well off can afford to go into a professional career and force the rest into manual labor that used to be done by now deported immigrants.

It is nice that this is being done but it's not very practical. Parents who can't afford to contribute thousands yearly aren't going to. Parents who can afford to could just do it anyway without the $250. $250 is peanuts compared to all the other money that would have to be put in.

MrBlue hit the nail on the head.

529 plans have a higher annual cap.
529 plans give a state tax break.
529 plans can be touched before turning 18, to spend on education.
529 plans' growth is tax-free, if spent on education.
529 plans can ultimately be converted into Roth IRAs.

Trump accounts offer none of the above.

The only value is claiming it; putting money in after that is reserved for the folks so rich, they can afford stupid choices.

I literally had to add a warning to my annual newsletter: only choose a NO FEE account; anything else, and that $1,000 will end up being consumed by bank fees.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's another scam by Trump and the Dells. The money will mysteriously disappear when the kids actually try to apply for the money. Either that or it will only go to rich kids who don't need the money or Trump will steal the money.

Only the wealthy can afford financial choices this stupid.

Every sensible advisor will be telling every sensible investor to avoid investing more than the grant.

You'd have to be stupidly wealthy to max out these accounts.

This is a bonanza for the richest.
