The Gas Industry guts new building codes set to take effect so that building green buildings won't happen, and so that modifying them in the future to be green, will cost 10's of thousands more for the occupants.

I wish I could say that the corruption in this country is astounding, but it's not. This is just par for the course.

Going electric doesn't do much for air pollution if that electricity comes from a coal burning power plant.

The molds inside you cars ventilation system are a bigger threat to your individual health.Be Afraid, be very afraid .

It still does help, just from regenerative braking, but less than if clean coal was actually a thing.

Internet says 19.5% of US electricity is from coal.

Do people not have ventilation over their gas stoves? I certainly do.

I am a member of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority.

From their website:

"Our electricity is currently sourced primarily from wind, solar, and hydropower from California and the Pacific Northwest, plus local biomass. We are collaborating with various other entities to create new sources of energy and long-term contracts, like offshore wind, that will continue to expand the capacity and stability of our local and state grid."

RCEA's power procurement is guided by the following goals:

100% renewable & carbon-free electricity by 2025 (Board resolution adopted in 2019)
100% of the county's electricity needs met by local renewable resources by 2030 (Board goal adopted in 2016)
65% of State-mandated renewable procurement under long term contracts of 10+ years by the 2021-2024 Renewable Portfolio Standard compliance period (State's SB 350 requirement)

Of course this is Northern California. We are way ahead of the power curve than most. You may not have this choice yet.

Good luck wherever you are.

plus local biomass

A neat way of saying they burn trees to make electricity, and it's a renewable resource because someone somewhere might plant another tree..... someday

The EU virtue signals about the reduction of their carbon footprint but behind the scenes, they're hauling trees from the Amazon to burn in their biomass plants.

"they're hauling trees from the Amazon to burn in their biomass plants."

Oh come on.

You know those Brazilian hardwoods are worth so much more than that.

The EV vs ICE debate is great because the problem is the unsustainable society that depends on cars, not which kind of car you drive.

Who said anything about hardwoods? They're also making a huge impact on the Pine terrace in the SE United States with their bullschitt.

Snoofy supports burning our forests in the name of green energy.

If your source of energy is coal or NG I don't see how electrification of your heat and hot water will cut down on pollution. Surely burning coal or NG at a central plant turning it into electricity then shipping that electricity down miles of lines with loss to your house then using a heating coal or heat pump to add heat to water or the air is far less efficient than just doing it directly on site skipping the steps of converting it to electricity then transmitting it then converting electricity to heat.

I've had multiple people try and tell me electric heat and hot water are better for the environment than NG but I have yet to see a single person show me any hard numbers. I mean I'm willing to believe it but it is counterintuitive so I would like some proof.
