Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, May 23, 2024

Walmart said that it has rolled back prices on nearly 7,000 items in its stores, noting deflationary trends in general merchandise. Target slashed prices on more than 1,500 items, ranging from laundry detergent to cat food to sunscreen, with thousands more price cuts expected over the summer. Other retailers including IKEA and Aldi have also reduced prices in recent months. Some economists say that while price cuts from retailers are a welcome sign that inflation overall has come down, inflation in other areas also needs to ebb to reach the Federal Reserve's 2% target.

And yet Trumpers persist in calling inflation "sky high" or whatever BS hyperbolic language they use.

Trumpturds say

The nation is in a recession. Its not.
Unemployment is at a 50 year high. Its not.
Inflation is out of control. Its not.

They are as divorced from reality as can be.

Walmart and Target have the profit margin where they can afford to drop prices. What does that tell you? It tells you we've been being over charged for years at higher prices than it should have been, all in the name of profit.

Every time you read on the news of "record profits" replace the with the phrase "price gouging".

"when this happens at Safeway."

They sell groceries at both Target and Walmart.

I studiously avoid Safeway like it has the plague. Target is too far away. Winco is the best bet but the mass of people make it hard to navigate with the goddamn carts with defective wheels.

Walmart is an adventure in itself. They cram stuff in the aisle so you can't get around the fat slob who can't make a decision.

But now I can afford more dog food for dinner.

If your economic situation won't allow you to purchase meat meant for human consumption, you might want to consider going vegetarian. Probably better for your health, as well.

"Sustainable eating is cheaper and healthier [...] Oxford University research has today revealed that, in countries such as the US, the UK, Australia and across Western Europe, adopting a vegan, vegetarian, or flexitarian diet could slash your food bill by up to one-third." www.ox.ac.uk

It tells me that they are big enough to take a small loss on certain items just to get people to come into the stores. It's proven that if they can place you in a select environment, they can entice you to make more purchases than you intended. It's why stores move things around periodically - exposure.

It also tells me that retailers are willing to take a controlled loss on things that aren't moving, rather than take a total loss.

Looks like Walmart will be boycotted in June because people don't want to see pride stuff.

Please.
Boycott them.
Show them just how big a group you are.
