A federal judge on Thursday ordered Steve Bannon to report to prison by July 1, giving the former Donald Trump adviser a short window to get a higher court's intervention.

"The federal judge presiding over the case, Carl Nichols, had initially paused the sentence while Bannon appealed the conviction.

Last month, however, a DC Circuit Court of Appeals panel unanimously rejected several challenges Bannon made to the case, and prosecutors immediately asked Nichols to send Bannon to prison to begin serving his sentence.

Nichols said Thursday that, given the appeals court ruling, he did not believe the basis he had for pausing Bannon's sentence "exists any longer."

The judge, who was appointed by Trump, said that he concluded that he had the authority to lift the hold on Bannon's sentence, even as an appeal of conviction will continue."

See? He should have had Aileen Cannon as his Judge!

Steve Bannon Prison News Sparks MAGA Fury
Published Jun 06, 2024 at 2:03 PM EDT

The prison news of longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon has sparked fury among MAGA fans, who claim it further shows "the death of the judicial system in America."

Former President Donald Trump weighed in with a Truth Social post on Thurdsay afternoon, calling it "a Total and Complete American Tragedy" and blaming President Joe Biden's "crooked" Justice Department.

"The unAmerican Weaponization of our Law Enforcement has reached levels of Illegality never thought possible before," he wrote.

Representative Matt Gaetz wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter: "It is with great sadness and anger that we observe the death of the judicial system in America. Steve Bannon sought judicial review of the illegal demands of a runaway congressional committee, unlike any ever comprised. It was literally a matter of first impression. And they're sending him to prison - not just to torture him but to torture us."

"Steve Bannon is going to prison July 1st because he was held in contempt of Congress by the FAKE Jan 6th Committee that was set up by Nancy Pelosi against House rules," Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted. "The DOJ is completely corrupt!!"

On Thursday, Gaetz said he had "begged" congressional leaders to expunge the contempt proceedings related to Bannon and other former Trump White House officials, like former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and former adviser Peter Navarro, but that his requests were refused because Republicans didn't have enough votes to do so."

What I have noticed is that it depends upon who is doing the trashing.

I doubt he shows up. He'll flee to Belarus and play the political exile MAGA victim, hoping his greasy counterpart gets in the White House and gives him a pardon so he can come back to the states.

It's only for 4 months. GEESH! What a powderpuff?

He'll be out in time for the election.

The only question I have is . . . is he going to take a bath for the occasion?

"is he going to take a bath for the occasion?"

Nah.

Only in years divisible by three, so ... next year.

@#6 ... What I have noticed is that it depends upon who is doing the trashing. ...

What I have noticed is that it seems to depend upon the substantiated reasons (or lack thereof) used by those criticizing the Justice system.
