Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The financial allure of video visitation was clear to local officials when the technology was first introduced in Genesee County a decade ago. At the time, one county official predicted, "video visitation is going to work. ... A lot of people will swipe that Mastercard."

Is the Democratic governor and state legislature of Michigan doing anything about it, #1?

Why aren't these people being called in and questioned?

They need to be butt f***** and driven from the state of Michigan by the Democrats who were elected to represent the people of Michigan.

Have charges been pressed against the sheriff of Genesee county?

When will this happen?

This is the sort of thing any reasonable leftist would be calling for the death penalty over.

How many counts are we looking at?

Crickets from "the radical left", though.

So,,,,,,

I've heard, right here, on this most august site, that capitalism is the very bestest system there is.

How's that whole thing going now, loves?

What stage of it are we in here?

Capitalism baby!

Your soul for a dollar.

That convinces me to make my grandson to stop mowing lawns or anything else that resembles starting a business.
Mmm yeah

Crickets from the Radical Left

How exactly do you every liberal media account for an entire news cycle?

Ya don't. And if you could, you'd still be to lazy to do it.

Did you miss the part about this being a nationwide problem or were you too busy tripping over your Mangina in a rush to demonstrate your faux outrage?

More reasons not to be violent

I've heard, right here, on this most august site, that capitalism is the very bestest system there is.

As far as we know earth is the best planet there is!

That does not mean anyone here is actually doing anything right or that the human race will even survive itself here.

The question about Capitalism isn't how did we survive without it.

It's how do we survive with it.

There are stories about this from back in mid March.

How many "news cycles" have there been since mid March?

And not a single charge.

Now let's see a little more creative writing about how it's my fault that the people who were elected to represent the people of Michigan haven't acted for a "news cycles", dick head.

Also more reasons not to be black in Central Park past midnight. But maybe the cops'll just George Floyd you, so no worries about prison then /s

Interesting. Because I just did a search using the terms 'prison inmate call', 'video call prison' and turned up nothing recently except for this article on MSNBC.

When I specifically searched under FOX I turned up a single article where they reported prisons making video calls free during COVID.

What I did get were dozens of links to prison video call in both blue and red jurisdictions. Try for yourself.

What's striking to me is how ubiquitous this practice is and how little it's been reported. That's a crying shame. But it's hardly the widespread conspiracy you make it out to be. But that's your stock in trade, isn't it? Fake one-sided culture war controversies to gin up the idiots? Yours is just an average example of it.

So a liberal media outlet finally gives this issue some attention and who's at fault according to Tres Clulas Cerebrales? Liberals.

2nd one on the list.

From March.

You're in a tough spot.

It's either admit that you're an idiot or pretend to not be able to use the internet and look like an idiot.

You made your choice, I guess.

I didn't read the rest of your post.

Anything other than "I was wrong..." is wwaayyy too many words.

It's cruel and unusual to not let prisoners in captivity see their families in person once in a while.

Then what?

Also,,,,

What happens to the people who pulled this ---- if an article is published about it?

Do you think Gretchen Whitmer and the democrats running Michigan don't know about it?

When will the indictments be coming?

It appears that Genesee county previously allowed one visit per week "in person" previously for free. (Most likely "in person" meant sitting on the other side of a glass partition using a phone). This system has been replaced with two free visits per week. Additional virtual visits are $10. Whether this system is preferable is a matter of perspective.

From a child's perspective, sitting at home in Grandmas lap privately "Skyping" with Mom or Dad is far less psychologically damaging than a long ride, to a place surrounded by razor wire, getting searched, then a long wait before being led down a hallway of glass with inmates on one side and their visitors on the other. There is yelling, crying, cursing even physical fights, and that's just on the visitors side of the glass. So you take a seat, and try to talk to Mom or dad on the other side of the window, shouting over the din of the surrounding noise.

No parent who isn't a POS would ever put their child through that if there was an alternative. Kids who grew up visiting their parent in prison will tell you it was traumatizing.

"From a child's perspective"

You mean yours?

What do you know about a child's perspective?

From a child's perspective, your job is to make his daddy go away, and then you tell the child you're helping.

That's also your perspective.

"Kids who grew up visiting their parent in prison will tell you it was traumatizing."

Using the harm it will cause the children to justify keeping parents from seeing their children is some twisted logic.

Notably, it's the state, not the parents, that gets to decide what's best for the children.

You really are a Brownshirt, though you don't seem to have the first clue what that means.

"No parent who isn't a POS would ever put their child through that if there was an alternative."

There's always been an alternative it's called not going. Or writing a letter.

Your victim blaming is absurd.

If this wasn't a for profit service I might begin to believe you have the best interests of the family in mind.

But we all know you're a real snake in the grass.

It's better to normalize Daddy being physically absent, just some face on a screen.

Yeah, that's going to build strong boys.

"Kids who grew up visiting their parent in prison will tell you it was traumatizing."

There is an easy way for parents to avoid this situation.

Can you guess what it is?

Don't commit crimes. And you won't end up traumatizing your kids from prison!

Kids should be penalized for their parent's actions?

#24 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-06-23 04:32 PM | Reply

Case in point. The poster girl of this particular story is a Ms. Reekila According to the article above, she "allegedly retailiated violently against her son's father who she says was abusing her". The might be a bit more to that story, cause she is charged with "Assault with Intent to Commit Murder", with a bond originally set at $2,000,000. Judges don't issue 2M bonds on a "he said -she said".

So apparently is was Ms. Reekila who was trying to take her kids father away, not the police.

And because of this, the sheriff of Genesee county should be able to buy himself a nice watch and retire early, right?

You're ------- gross.

So you are making an allegation that the this kickback is going to the Sheriff personally, Link?

Income from vendor deals are like this are not "profit" to the mail. They supplement the facility budget, and are usually earmarked for a particular purpose, enhanced services or costs that would otherwise be funded by taxpayer dollars.

The money the jail is getting from the vendor won't even cover the cost of paying the officers who escort the inmates to the viewing area and supervise the extra virtual visits.

Yes, the vendor is making a profit. So is the vendor that makes the orange jumpsuits, and other goods and arrives inmates require. Do you expect companies that do business with the government to donate their services?

#27 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2024-06-24 08:54 AM | Reply

"Yes, the vendor is making a profit."

That only encourages more prisoners.

Do you want more prisoners?
You probably do.
