The patina from worker sweat and tears add to the luxury.

LOL its funny people think its the $57 of bag that's worth $2,780.

Agreed. The bag is worth $57. The certificate of authenticity from Dior is worth the remaining $2,723.

"FASHION" in all its forms is a testament to the still primitive nature of humans.

Totally.

Why do ties exist, bow or otherwise? Cufflinks?

Why do office workers wear the most retarded, impractical clothes on the planet? And why are other office workers impressed or unimpressed by it?

My idea of "couture" is Khaki pants by Outdoor Research, boots by Mammut, and a polyester golf shirt. I wear the same thing to the office as I would if I were going for a hike.

This is supposed to be a surprise to someone? Pretty sure every one knew already that they are paying for the brand and not the cost of the raw materials.

This is like someone whining that a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R sells for over a million $ and not its scrap metal value.

The summary was changed from my original post, but the price/cost was mentioned because of the criminal investigation.

Basically an issue of worker exploitation despite the incredibly high profit margins for the billionaire owner: "Prosecutors said these companies exploited workers to pump out bags for a small fraction of their store price. Investigators found evidence that workers were sleeping in the facility so bags could be produced around the clock, Reuters reported. They also tracked electricity-consumption data, which showed work was being carried out during nights and holidays, the report said."

It is so easy for people, especially men, to mock the fashion industry and to be condescending toward those who enjoy it. I am not certain whether this disdainful mind-set says more about the people who have contempt for fashion or the people willing to waste tons of money on narcissistic items such as a $2700 bag.

I think it says oodles about the people who spend almost $3K on an item that costs 5% of that to produce. Much like it said much about a culture that spent the cost of a home on a tulip bulb.

The fact that the owner of this company is a billionaire many times over, but the people manufacturing the product earned $2 an hour says quite a bit as well.

But hey, I'm always in favor of people with too much money on their hands spending it. Only wish that it went to those who needed it more, rather than, in this case, the third wealthiest man in the world.

The markup is not the crime. Worker exploitation isn't any less worse if the product isn't marked up as much as these bags

so a 700%+ markup?

Agreed that the workers are entitled to a minimum wage and appropriate working conditions no matter the markup. But inadequacy of those aspects while the owner makes billions in profit can add to the outrage for those who find it to be wrongful behavior. And hammers home just how "exploitative" the conduct is.

I think about a 5,000 percent markup for just labor and ignoring material costs. ($57 labor costs and selling for $2,780). 700% markup would be about $400 sales price. www.omnicalculator.com

But math is hard, so I refuse to stand by my numbers.

This post is hilarious, is this a comedy routine?

The fact that someone gave it NEWSWORTHY, just shows how stupid people are.
