AB 1840, which already passed the Assembly and now faces a floor vote in the Senate, would prevent the state's California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loans program from denying individuals on the basis of their immigration status. This program allows applicants to secure "loans" of up to 20% of the home's purchase price " or, about what a typical down payment is " with zero down payment on this state loan, and no payments. The state's "loan" can potentially be repaid to the state when the home is refinanced, sold, or transferred, with the borrower paying back the original loan amount plus 20% of any increase in value on the property. It's not clear what happens if a family decides to hold on to a home as there are no provisions on how long a property can be held for, which means certain kinds of trusts could potentially allow the loan to not be paid back.

prevent the state's California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loans program from denying individuals on the basis of their immigration status.

1) need more information about the "California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loans program."

2) they can't deny based on immigration status, but it doesn't say anything about denying based on any other factor, such as financial status.

Overall. This article isn't providing much information other than throwing buzzwords at xenophobic people to trigger them.

-------- laps it up like "blood" from Fat Donnie Felon's ear.

I'm pretty sure people with a good "financial status" don't need zero down and zero payments until they decide to sell the home.

That's like a qualified car buyer bypassing the dealership to go tho the "we tote the note" lot to buy a car. Anyone with half a brain can see what is going on here.

I see you're feeling really confident, probably because its good news that you're finally get housed.

Well, I for one would rather have a Felon/Traitor in the WH than to help people get housing!

Pretty sure banks aren't handing out loans to people knocking on the door.

The article only states 1 condition that can't be used to disqualify people from receiving a loan from the "California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loans program."

Immigration status.

Seems to me, based on the name of the loan, it was created for people that have questionable immigration status in the first place.

I'm sure, as a xenophobic loser living in Texas, this is gonna affect you immensely.

It's an NBC article... Not Alex Jones moron. It's also on the front page of one of the more liberal rags out there.

It does concern me as it should, because the more your dumbass governor gives Cali away, the more of you ------- show up in my rural paradise and try to paint it a camouflaged shade of blue.

I read the article, genius.

It provides no information other than stating that loans can't be denied based on Immigration status.

Also, nobody wants to move to your shht hole state.

They have to, do affordability and a functioning economy, that's completely fueled by the blue cities in that shht state.

Republicans have managed to kill the economy of most states they control.

@#4 ... I'm pretty sure people with a good "financial status" don't need zero down and zero payments until they decide to sell the home. ...

What's wrong, then, with helping people with, as your current alias puts it, less than good financial status buying a house?

Maybe that is the jump start they need.

Yea, that's why so many liberals are moving to them.

If I left California, I'd look for a cheap state that has relatively the same climate and a functioning economy.

So, red state with some strong blue cities.

Notice no one it moving to red states like Mississippi or South Carolina or Kentucky ...

Those state are conservative paradises.

Only reason anybody moved to Georgia's because the entertainment industry actually gave that state's economy a heartbeat.

California with the 5th largest economy in the WORLD is "ruined"?

The weather is beautiful the economy is strong opportunities are boundless and our colleges and universities are world class and my home is worth a small fortune and I just can't decide whether to go to the beach or the redwoods this weekend.

Tourism spending in California climbed to $150.4 billion in 2023.

We are so Ruined!
