California Outlaws Mandatory Anti-Union Meetings at Work

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill into law Friday barring employers from holding mandatory anti-union meetings in the workplace. The legislation makes California the latest and largest state to outlaw what are known as "captive audience" meetings.

Agree as any such meetings should be out of the facility and after work.

I don't care about the location or time. If you want high attendance, then you should make it convenient for them.

But it shouldn't be mandatory.

How about giving workers the option to take a 30min break, or listen to the anti-union pitch.

I'd go to the meeting ...

... just to point out we wouldn't be getting half-hour breaks without a Union.

If a company wants to follow the law but compel their employees to attend the meeting....simple.

"By California law, we can't require attendance. However, we will be taking roll to account for those who did attend.....and a gift will be handed out to the attendees"

just a little subtle threat to "encourage" attendance.

I believe they did. It's not mandatory, but why would they be taking attendance, if not for retaliation? If they want to give a prize, the can pick a seat number out of a hat.

FTW, retaliation for ANY Union-connected activities breaks the law.
