PepsiCo Inc. is the latest company to dial back its diversity, equity and inclusion programs as President Donald Trump's push to purge DEI ripples through corporate America. The company will abandon workforce representation targets, no longer have a dedicated Chief DEI Officer, and expand its supplier diversity program to include all small businesses, among other changes, according to a memo from Chief Executive Officer Ramon Laguarta. He said the company had been refining its approach over the past year "to ensure it is aligned with our long-term business strategy, responsive to local markets, and focused on the principles that drive sustainable growth." The contents of the memo, posted on social media Thursday by anti-DEI activist Robby Starbuck, were confirmed by a PepsiCo spokesperson.

Companies from Amazon.com Inc. to Walmart Inc. have announced changes to their DEI programs in recent months as activists ramped up pressure against diversity initiatives. That trend has accelerated under Trump, whose administration threatened to pursue criminal investigations against companies with "illegal" DEI.

DEI, well intentioned, executed not so great.

Stepping back from a well intentioned goal, that produces outcomes that are not intended is not hate.
