Wisconsin law does not allow auto manufacturers to directly sell their product to consumers, only third-party operators can open sales shops. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is suing to change that law, a case that is likely to end up in the state's supreme court.

"Musk, who is the world's wealthiest person and is running President Donald Trump's initiative to slash the size of the federal workforce, has given $3 million to the Wisconsin GOP while groups he supports have funneled more than $17 million into the race.

The contributions are part of an extraordinary spending spree in the race, making it by far the most expensive judicial race on record in the U.S. Total spending has eclipsed $80 million with days still to go before the final day of voting on April 1.

Schimel's critics have accused Musk of trying to buy a favorable ruling for Tesla should the dealership case make it to the state Supreme Court.

Here are details of the law and Musk's lawsuit:" see thread link

Hey now, if a minor billionaire like Trump can own the US Supreme Court, there's no reason why a real billionaire like Musk can't purchase a piddling State Supreme Court.... by paying cash for votes.

"Protests against Elon Musk's role in Trump administration swarm Tesla showrooms

By early afternoon crowds ranging from a few dozen to hundreds of protesters had flocked to Tesla locations in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Minnesota and the automaker's home state of Texas.

Pictures posted on social media showed protesters brandishing signs such as "Honk if you hate Elon " and "Fight the billionaire broligarchy."

As the day progressed, the protests cascaded around the country outside Tesla locations in major cities such as Washington, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Seattle, as well as towns in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Colorado. Smaller groups of counterprotesters also showed up at some sites."

If there were Tesla dealerships in Wisc, there would be more places to protest the billionaire broligarchy.

A business is legal if the state says it is legal.

SitzKrieg is correct about the messenger, though. Wasn't too long ago that libs were upset that Texas, amongst other states, wasn't letting Tesla open dealerships. FTA:

State statutes generally prohibit vehicle manufacturers from owning or operating dealerships in Wisconsin and give that franchise to third parties. The law was intended to prevent manufacturers from undercutting independent dealerships.

Nearly 20 states have similar prohibitions, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The laws took hold in the 1930s as carmakers started to rely on independent dealerships to sell and service vehicles so they could focus on production. Later, independent dealers wanted to prevent manufacturers from opening their own dealerships and driving them out of business.

The way I see it, it's a complicated issue. Personally, I'd prefer to see direct to the consumer sales. Would eliminate a lot of unnecessary and discriminatory haggling.

Also, doesn't matter if Wisconsin had a Tesla dealership on every corner. That company is overvalued and doomed.

F*** the dealer, free the consumer, I concur

I personally was curious about Elon's vision and happy to see electric cars take off. Then I learned more about his beliefs and his background, then he got into a flame war with the head of a rescue operation during the rescue operation, where he was calling the head of the rescue operation a "pedo" as an insult. I knew he was absolutely not to be trusted, by that point.

And then Soros bought the state Supreme Court and changed the laws?

Despite Sitz and your insistence.

I can't find any mention of democrats or liberals giving a shht about teslas in Texas.

"Wisconsin's attorney general is racing to stop Elon Musk's million-dollar giveaways in the state tonight"

"Wisconsin's Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul has asked the state Supreme Court to block Musk and his super PAC from offering $1 million awards to voters at this evening's town hall in Green Bay, according to a new court filing."

Musk has said he will "hand over checks for a million dollars to 2 people to be spokesmen" for a petition against "activist judges." But that's after the tech billionaire deleted an earlier version of the post, in which he had written he would give the checks "in appreciation for you taking the time to vote."

Where things stand: An appeals court on Saturday denied the attorney general's initial request, so Kaul is now asking the state Supreme Court, where liberals hold a 4-3 majority, to intervene before the event's 6:30 p.m. local start time (7:30 p.m. ET).

"Resolution of this legal issue is urgent," Kaul wrote in the brief filed Sunday. "If this Court does not take prompt action, and the prizes are awarded, the injury to public confidence in the validity of this election cannot be undone."

Elections being bought and paid for was a very much intended side effect of Citizens United.

It has led to the single biggest corrupt era in our history with supreme court justices collecting MILLIONS in bribes from plaintiffs in cases.

Money is not speech. Money is money. It has no place in the election process.
