"He then does the math using Lynsi Snyder's estimated wealth, saying she's worth about $8.7 billion, and 5% of that is roughly $435 million. Ramin describes it as "one check to Sacramento," and he says that's the kind of bill that turns a decision into an emergency exit."

I wish it didn't come to this. It hasn't even passed and it's not a sure thing it will.

Hey CA residents, do you prefer In N Out burgers or Fatburgers? I would much rather eat at Fatburger.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

F*&^ them. Because $8.2 billion isn't enough and she's already gotten everything she wants from the state. No need to give back when vanity stands to gain.

Besides, that place sucks.

what does it take to finally push out a person who inherited and expanded a business built in California, raised her family there, and stayed through decades of upheaval?

Unmitigated vanity and greed. Especially for someone who was handed what they have.

Made all the richer that she's a fake Christian who puts bible verses on the food containers.

Like I said, f*&^ her. Good bye.

If this passes, I wonder how many of them will leave until the 1-time tax (LOL...nobody believes that) has been levied and then they come back?

Many unanswered questions on this topic. In any case, I don't see it passing. Not if more publicly announce their intention to leave even before it's voted on.

I doubt any of them actually leave. Maybe take up residency somewhere else, spend less time in CA, but there's no way in hell they're all giving up their giant mansions in the beautiful areas inhabited by the rich. There are plenty of reasons for even the rich to continue existing in CA. They'll just claim they live elsewhere while continuously hanging out in CA. Seems like JD Vance is doing this exact thing, considering his wife is from CA.

So they'll continue to leech off the state while refusing to give anything back...

If they were going to pick a face of this issue, maybe they should have gone with someone who wasn't handed their billions and their massive company when they were 30 simply for being a lucky birth...

In N Out and Fatburger are so 20th century. Get yourself a smashburger at Tanner's.

#9 The Smashburger didn't survive in my town. Of course MN is home to the Jucy Lucy. But our best burger is the Parlour burger, (chuck, ribeye, brisket patties with American cheese on an egg bun.) If you are ever in the Mpls area you should check them out.

Ah, I looked up Tanners. It's in Oceanside. Sadly I've lost touch with my friend who lived in Leucadia. When we used to visit, we ate Mexican food, not burgers.

You can't get back in. Unless you downgrade your lifestyle, or have a Billion dollars.

Billionaires might leave. The issue is the on going erosion of your income and now assets for a society that isn't providing anything more than it currently is.

A more inventive solution would be to tax loans made against stocks. I have seen a good couple of summaries of how that might work. Not that I approve but its better and more consistent than a wealth/asset tax.

The State can't fund illegal immigrant healthcare and then let the homeless run around ruining basic neighborhoods, all the while asking the citizen to put more in the kitty.

In any case, I don't see it passing.

Perhaps not but the window has now widened to include this in the conversation. Much like the SFO talk of reparations, which eventually did pass.

I also am looking forward to TaxTheRich people to go after Prop13, and SocialSecurity.

Sure, Mexican food in SD is the bomb, but branch out a little, FFS.

#13 Legally, I moved to MN in 1987. Their idea of Mexican food in MN when I first moved here was chili powder in tomato sauce for salsa, I kid you not. So sue me for wanting Mexican food when I visited CA. It has improved dramatically here since then. We found a place in Shakopee whose owner was from San Diego. I miss being able to order a dozen tamales for Christmas, or going to a restaurant with a pot for them to fill with menudo on a Sunday morning. I don't drink anymore, but I do like menudo. Haven't found a restaurant here that serves it though.

It's really a thing, though. I'm born and raised Angeleno, lived in So Cal my entire life, and everyone says you can't get good Mexican food anywhere else. I do consider myself lucky.

However.... Carlsbad has excellent Italian and Japanese food. Just sayin'.

And the micro brewery scene is great. LTH (Local Tap House) one of my faves. There is a great newer Mexican place in Carlsbad, Tortilla Mia (it took over the Las Olas space) Their homemade corn tortillas and chips are the best I've had

#18 Fresh corn tortillas, I'm salivating. My best friend from HS was of Mexican descent. Her mother used to roll out her tortillas with a small piece of metal pipe from her husbands plumbing business. For Italian food it was Napolis just south of Marina del Rey.

Of course, for Italian, nothing was better than my mom's cooking. My grandfather immigrated from Sicily. My father taught my mother to cook. Her grandfather immigrated from Jugo-Slavia. That is how it was recorded on the Ellis Island records.

Nice. In SD North County there's a triumvirate of Vigilucci's restaurants. The downtown is nice, the steakhouse across the street from the ocean is my favorite, and the other one I've never been to. The Robertini with hand-stuffed blue cheese olives is ... Well ...

so a thread about an anti socialist business decision turns into a thread about food.

nice !!.......every thread here should end up talking about food / booze and broads.

#22 Yes, when the subject of the thread is the owner of a burger franchise, we talk about food. Are we not allowed? Well allow me to comment on the business owner. She is willing to take the money and run because they changed the tax rules on her? Welcome to the club, lady. Us peons have been contributing to her welfare since Reagan lowered the tax rates and made up to 85% of my social security taxable. She'll get no sympathy from me.
