Germany's right-wing populist Alternative fr Deutschland (AfD) thanked billionaire Elon Musk for his support Sunday after scoring a historic election victory, taking the moment to call for future "cooperation." The AfD stormed to first place in Saxony-Anhalt with 43.8% of the vote, more than doubling its support from five years ago and leaving Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democratic Union a distant second on 17.2%. The result nevertheless left the AfD just short of the absolute majority it had sought. Final returns gave the party 39 lawmakers in the 83-seat state parliament, three seats shy of governing alone. |
