US president's epiphany that Putin may not want to stop Ukraine war follows 'symbolic' talk with Zelenskyy in St Peter's Basilica

The weight on his shoulders is more than just the heavy armor or the worn backpack. It's the weight of a nation's hope. Of families praying. Of children waiting. It's the weight of freedom, dignity, and the future. And yet -- he stands tall. Because he knows: Ukraine must live.

"His revelation soon came in the guise of a Truth Social post. "There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days," Trump mused.

"It makes me think that maybe [Putin] doesn't want to stop the war."

For months, Zelenskyy and European leaders have struggled to deliver that message to Trump. Now, in part thanks to Trump's unlikely pilgrimage to the Vatican for Pope Francis's funeral, they may see new hope for their intervention before the Ukraine war is lost for good.

This could, of course, all come to naught.

The US president is notoriously mercurial. His thinking may change the next time he speaks with Putin, or with one of his own advisers deeply sceptical of Ukraine.

Trump's post mentioning Putin was mainly dedicated to attacking the New York Times' White House correspondent, whom he derided as "liddle" and a "very biased and untalented writer".

And Trump left the Vatican before a second meeting with Zelenskyy was supposed to take place."

He may just be, "abjectly stupid". Like his culitists.

No ----.

Putin has no reason to stop now. He's winning.

Wars are Hard to stop. This one didn't need to happen.

Sanctions didn't cut it, Weapons transfers didn't cut it,Trump's Ego makes him believe he has more juice than he does.

Putin could have been prevented from attacking if Biden didn't push war.

Insults and Threats are Not Diplomacy.

Actual Diplomacy is having high level talks and attempting to reach a settlement.

Did NATO or Biden attempt that?

Now it's too late.

As far as stupid, fictional stories go... you need a new one. That one has been demolished here literally dozens of time with facts and history.

I'm always confused as to why anyone would suggest it should be made easier for Putin to achieve his goal of conquering the Ukraine.

Especially if they're not a Ukrainian.

But.

Republicans do always want to impose their views on everyone else.

Trump had an epiphany?

Better get him to a hospital before he has a stroke.

More BS from Trump. To cover for whatever his next pro-Russia action will be.

Probably lifting all sanctions against Russia because Ukraine tricked Putin into bombing Kyiv, or some such nonsense.

NATO overestimated themselves and underestimated Russia.

This will probably be decided by War.

Unfortunately.

All avoidable if only the West wasn't so damned Arrogant and overconfident.

Russia has escalation dominance.

Didn't NATO have Kiev falling in three weeks?

The stupidity was not even attempting to have diologue.

The Russians pushed hard for high level talks in January and February 2022.

NATO and especially Biden refused any Dialogue.

They didn't claim ANY responsibility for Ukraine until the war started.

Later they armed and funded them but all that is doing is getting more people killed.

They thought "weakening" Russia was a great idea, given that no western countries faced open war themselves.

Bad Decision. Now Ukraine faces demographic collapse.

Oops.

I doubt they ever really cared much about Ukraine.

Especially the people.

The minerals and agriculture were coveted by Western countries.

The people were just expendable pawns.

Standard Operation for Uncle Sam.
