President Donald Trump in a social media post Thursday announced plans to rename Veterans Day as "Victory Day for World War I" and establish May 8 as "Victory Day for World War II."

"We won both wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything," Trump wrote in the late night statement. "That's because we don't have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!"

The move to rename Veterans Day " established to coincide with the end date of World War II " would overwrite 87 years of precedent in recognizing Nov. 11 as a national holiday celebrating all veterans.

Now Trump want's to rename Veteran's Day to 'Victory Day for World War I' and declare May 8th as 'Victory Day for World War II'. He implied that the United States won both of these wars, claiming that no on else came close to accomplishing what we did but we never celebrate that fact.

It's interesting in that Trump appears to not know when World War II actually ended. He's suggesting that May 8th is the appropriate day to celebrate this historical event. Do you know who else celebrates the end of World War II on May 8th? Russia. Just so that Trump knows, if he's trying to give the United States credit for winning World War II, he should be looking at making September 2nd 'Victory Day for World War II', as that's the day Japan formally surrendered, just like November 11th, 'Veterans Day' (what used to be called 'Armistice Day') was the day that Germany formally surrendered after World War I.

And just so that you know, it appears that the Pentagon is going ahead with plans to hold a military parade in Washington DC on June 14th to commemorate the birth of Donald J. Trump.

Just get it over with and rename all the holidays after Trump.

Maybe add another month in his honor, like for caesars. Trumpustus has a nice ring to it.

Heck, name all the days of the week and months after him (e.g., Trumpustus the first is a Trumpsday). The MAGAts will clap, while the GOP cowers in fear.

In essence 11 Nov 1918 was a ceasefire (armistice) on the Western Front only. Civil wars and regime changes plagued Eastern Europe for another few years. The last cavalry battle of the 20th century was fought between Poland and Russia in 1920 (The Battle of Komarow). The treaties formally ending the Great War came later between 1919 and 1923.

And this idiotic decree by Trumpf does coincide with Russia's celebration day. So perhaps the Dotard will declare 14 May a US national holiday as well, or re-name the planets by Executive Order as he did the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1945, La Guardia renamed Sixth Avenue, known by that name since the early 1800s, "Avenue of the Americas." And to this day, it's "Sixth Avenue" for New Yorkers.

#5: Hi Doc. Spot on. Years ago a tourist asked me where was the 'Avenue of the Americas?' I had to pause a second before answering him: "Oh, Sixth Avenue is that way, Sir."

[Trump's] suggesting that May 8th is the appropriate day to celebrate this historical event. Do you know who else celebrates the end of World War II on May 8th? Russia.

Very interesting. I did not know that.

So "Victory Day".

What does that mean for the vets from the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the War in Afghanistan, the War in Iraq ...

No more commemoration for those who fought America's wars and didn't win?

Veterans are suspect in the comic book Trump calls "life." Real heroes, the best kind, died for their country. And the very best? For Old Yeller they'll be the ones who die for Trump.

Trump's Victory Day declaration for May 8 brings him into lime with Putin's Russia, where May 9 is Victory Day.

Let's campaign for 15 Feb to be a US national holiday: c8.alamy.com

What you saw in the link above is a photo of the last Soviet soldier to depart Afghanistan on 15 Feb 1989. That ten year invasion cost the Kremlin 14,453 to 26,000 KIA, a paltry number compared to the 900,000 slaughtered in Ukraine. But 2026 may see Russia reach the fabled one million death mark for their army.

Yes, that Russkie in the photo bears a slight resemblance to ousted Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
