Across the US, state lawmakers, primarily Republicans the past few years, are trying to undermine ballot initiatives adopted by voters. "This is very much connected to the rise of authoritarianism," one expert said. /By @jeremykohler.bsky.social

Rwingers don't believe America is any kind of a democracy to begin with... just ask them.

And they werk very hard to make sure they are killing what little democracy we have left.

"In summary, Washington's vision for democracy involved a strong, unified nation where the people had the right to govern themselves, but also a government that could effectively execute its duties and protect the country from internal and external threats.

He believed that civic virtue and a commitment to the public good were essential for the success of this democratic experiment."

;

"Washington expressed concern about the rise of political parties and their potential to disrupt the government.

He believed that parties could be divisive and lead to political infighting, hindering the public good.

He warned that political factions could be used to advance the interests of individuals or groups, rather than the common good."

'Member when democracy and 'the common good' for the People was THE relevant test for our society, rather than the current since Reagan/Thatcher, 'what's good for the big corporations and the wealthy Oligarchs is good for America because their success will Trickle Down...

... which even many of it's early proponents have now long said that that monetary and cultural success NEVER EVER werked.

But, hey, whatever the Cult Leader says must be true, especially if the big money billionaires at the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society say it's true.

Precisely... who needs to worry about what voters want when you can buy their votes with money from the Corporations, through corrupt, biased media; also owned by the same corporations.

Which is why only public financing of elections and strong bribery laws for politicians and Corporations needs to be a thing.

More proof of what smart, opened eyes people already know-the right is full of dishonest s%^*bags who hate our constitutional republic and only ever claimed originalism or respect of the founding fathers and constitution when it could be used to bludgeon opponents.

It was never sincere.

It was never honest.

It was always just a tool to be used for power.

You mean ballot initiatives like Prop 8 in California where the people voted to outlaw gay marriage and then the state elected leaders ignored their will - those authoritarians like Jerry Brown?

Or, do you ------- only whine and cry when Conservatives do it?

Also, BlueSky (aka pedophile Twitter) as your source, again?

Proposition 8 was funded by the LDS from outside of California, I remember.

I also remember an app that shown from where each donor was, quite alarming.

San Francisco is a gay mecca, and it's destruction by your "class" is historically just more bigotry on display.

Every single agenda that you support is being rejected by your own party.

While you are pointing an angry, turgid digit at all the wrong people, the Republican voters are "whining and crying" for actual Progressive legislation, bro.

"Conservative voters", once informed find Progressive ideals appealing, regardless how you feel.

Whats funny is how much unfiltered porn is currently available on X.

I keep reading about the Republican war on porn, and it's like, your co-president, Musk, is running the biggest porn app in the world.

You really cannot find anyone more hypocritical than Trump voters.
